Featuring the assorted personalities and characters living in the diverse pockets of the Queen Anne neighborhood, and the local businesses, organizations and amenities that make the hill a wonderful place to live.
While are true neighbors to the North partied it up like hockey players this past Tuesday to celebrate Canada Day, our less Northernly neighbors in Freemont have some great activities happening this holiday weekend.
In addition to the fireworks par-tay going on tomorrow night in Gasworks (ok, a few neighborhoods might claim the park as their own), this Saturday will mark the second weekend of the Freemont Outdoor Movies, featuring"Hot Fuzz" as this week's pick. Movie starts at dusk, there is food, contests and more, and it will only cost you little to no dinero to enjoy.
The folks running the show even have a blog celebrating new themes each week. This week, "Celebrity Mug Shot Night" complete with a photo booth!
Nothing really more to say than that. The sun is out. It was out yesterday and according to weather reports, it will be here alll week. If you are even inside reading this post, you should turn off your computer (when your done of course!) and go outside.
Newspapers reported this morning that Mayor Greg Nickels is proposing reducing the time it takes to approve sidewalk cafe permits and the cost of permits, making it easier for Seattle eateries to take advantage of sunny days like today.
The current cost is $2300, with a proposed $1700 drop to $600, with a proposed total of 10 days of processing, as opposed to the current wait of multiple months. All I can say to that is woo to the freakin' hoo! Coming from New York City, where a 10 square foot doorfront of a restaurant will set up on the street facing a dumpster and a cigarette store, I see a lot more opportunities for beautiful outside eating options here in the Emerald City, especially in QA.
Until all of those permits go through, you should still take your lunch outside. Other than the usual Kerry Park bonanza that happens this time of year (did I mention that the Mountain is out too?) there are plenty of other killer vantage points on the hill. Kinnear Park, at the end of Olympic Place as it rounds the corner to become 10th Ave W. (or vice versa depending where you are coming from) is a great lookout over Puget Sound and Magnolia.
