Synopsis: Gorgeous freshman Sydney White (Amanda Bynes) has come to Southern Atlantic University to pledge her late mom's once-dignified sorority. But while surviving the pledging process wrought by evil campus witch Rachel (Sara Paxton), Syd finds out this version of sisterhood isn't remotely what it's cracked up to be. Banished to a condemned house on Greek Row, Syd finds her rightful place with a band of seven very socially challenged guys. With the help of one lovestruck frat boy named Tyler (Matthew Long), she and the doofs campaign to take over student government. Fighting for the rights of misfits big and small, Syd organizes her gang to revolutionize the system, once and for all.
Robert's Review
"Sydney White" is the modern day Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, but it's set in college to the tune of Sydney White and the Seven Dorks. Most of this movie is really slow and unentertaining… however, there are also some really sweet, funny, charming and hilarious moments that really grabbed my attention towards the middle and the end, not to mention that as the dorks were being… well, dorks… I could see a lot of myself and Brett in them. We've had many similar dorky arguments, such as – which is cooler, pirates or ninjas? Our answer of course is PIRATES… they get booty, lots of rum, and they party all the time! Anyhow, I digress… overall, "Sydney White" is a charming, if still awkward, adaptation of Snow White and it's worth seeing and it was surprisingly endearing.
All in all, I'd give this movie 3 Dorks (out of 5). Re-watch value: MEDIUM
Brett's Review
So the cute Amanda Bynes is back in a modern day re-telling of Snow White and the seven dwarves. Only this time it a college campus, and a sorority instead of a forest and a little cottage. This was a good movie for the audience it was intended for…12 year olds, however there was enough humor for the adults as well and for Bynes fans this was a good one for her. The movie was a charming tale and it did have a certain cuteness quality to it, but for geeks like myself it was a cool movie that once again shows that Geeks Rule!!! Oh yea Pirates are waaaaaayyyy better than Ninjas they always have Rum and they always get booty!!
Overall Rating: 3 Geeks (out of 5). Re-Watch Value: Moderate (I will purchase on DVD.)
Trivia: Most of the members of the "SAU Marching Sharks" in the film are actual band members. Members of the University of Central Florida Marching Knights were used to film these scenes.
