I rate this movie "meh". i went in with high expectations, and left disappointed due to the lack of culmination in the story. the action, while intense, was sporadic. there was no "big" action scene. and with the Joker now needing to be recast, where does this now leave the series? The big mistake is leaving the one villain who has ties to the Dark Night dead. If you wait for the DVD, you'll not have missed out. Go see Hulk if you haven't seen it yet instead.

I just saw The Dark Knight last night. WOW! It was a great movie. I am not one to watch superhero movies but this movie and Ledger's role as the joker took it to a new level. I recommend it. Go watch it if you haven't.

The last poster who typed, "There's no real action scenes," is, well, kind of an idiot.

And now that Ledger is gone, there will be NO re-casting for the Joker, so that poster really has no reason to complain. There are plenty of villains in the Gotham universe to keep this series fresh.

And if any future villains are even an quarter as fascinating as Ledger was, then we really have nothing to worry about at all.

The first commentor needs their head examined, and possibly a good Shock-Treatment. Dark Knight was Amazing... SO amazing, it bears repeating: Dark Knight was Amazing, Incredible, Fantastic, and Exceptionally Entertaining. Christian Bale brings a new life and a new air to Batman. He's Absolutely Perfect for the role: Perfectly placed and executed Charisma, followed by spot-on "Dark and Brooding" when he should be. He MAKES you care about Batman's own internal struggles, while still giving both Batman and Bruce Wayne a humor and passion we've never seen before.

And Heath Ledger..... there are no words that do justice to his performance. I don't want to say too much for fear of building up unreachable expectations, but Ledger's performance exceeds Jack Nicholson's, and Ol' Jack is one of the Best in the Biz. Heath Was simply incredible. He brought a completely fresh new feel to a familiar character, brought him to an unimaginable level, and SUCKED you into the story, staying on the edge of your seat wondering what he was going to do next. I don't think i've EVER been as interested or involved in a character as Ledger's Joker. He BECOMES the Joker, and paints him with an even more insidious brush than you could have imagined. I was excited to see the movie, but was planning to wait until the second weekend to avoid the crowds, and also wasn't the type to beat down the door(or pay $10 A TICKET!!?!?!) to see ANY movie. My sister dragged me along to the 12:01 show, and all I can say is: I won't wait till the second weekend to go see it a second time. It's THAT good.

If you haven't seen Batman Begins, rent it and watch it before you see Dark Knight. Forget every other movie that's out right now. Don't see anything else until you've seen The Dark Knight first. It's firmly now in my Top-5-Fav's of All Time.

Are you insane? No big action sequences? The entire film is packed with action. Take the first 15 minutes for example. Brilliant! I loved Heath Ledger's Joker. I haven't really seen any villan quite like that. I didn't find any scene to be boring. However, I did find myself constantly wanting the Joker to pop up in almost every scene! All of the actors did an amazing job.

I want to watch it again, and it is very rare for me to say something like that. I only hope that the next Batman film is just as good. Let's get Anthony Hopkins as The Riddler!!!

Oh I really liked this movie. Christain Bale has always been a great actor. And Heath did not disappoint! Considering he started out in 10 things I hate about you and now he is in one of the biggest movies of 2008 he has come a long way! I would totally watch it again.

Not Worth the HYPE!!!!! Its a good movie at best, not a great movie...with all of the hype it is suppose to be the best movie of the year, and I can't give it those markings. The Joker dominated the entire movie. Hollywood is truly running out of plots and storylines.
I came into the thearter with the expectation that this was going to be the best sequel ever, and it just didn't do it ....I also left the movie thearter disappointed ...

I will give Heath his props for a stunning performance, he sold me as the joker. One performance that would make Jack Nicholson proud....

Christan Bale also turns in a solid performance as Bruce Wayne....

My suggestion is to go see it, if you have seen IronMan and The Hulk, to complete this summers superhero hat-trick...also for the thearter experience, if not enjoy it on HI-Def in dolby digital surround sound when it comes out on BLU-RAY!!!!

Joker's whole intent was to drive Bat's over the edge...when that didn't happen...Harvey was next on the list...

The Dark Knight is a great movie but not the best. Heath Ledger made this movie bigger than it was suppose to be. When the Joker is not in a scene its quite dull. Batman is okay but Heath Ledger's Joker is so good that when he comes in he makes the movie 10x better. Batman is on top for now..but remember people who go see the movie go to see Heath Ledger and his take on Joker. Not because of Batman cause even though Christan Bale does fine as Batman, its not Oscar worthy like Heath Ledger.

wow i just saw it tonight. i honestly couldn't relax. me and my friend were shaking, heath ledger was so believable as the psycho-villain Joker... no idea what he was ever going to do. it was amazing. i don't normally like the batman movies, but this one was absolutely amazing. christian bale is so epic... (that voice!!!) as is heath ledger. there are no words to describe heath ledger's performance other than... insane... just.. oh my. (if you can't tell, i'm in a little bit of shock still trying to digest what i just saw...)

Amazing flick!! A truly awesome movie. This is no ordinary comic book movie, this is an epic film that will go down as a classic for all ages. And not just because of Heath Ledger's tragic demise leading into the release, this movie would be hailed a huge success even if he was still with us today.

I personally plan to watch this movie again in theaters. A first for me in all my 28 years of movie-going experience. The second time will definitely be in IMAX.

there r 2 shitty scenes wrong with it.
1. the beginning courtroom scene where the guys gun jams and harvey punches him in the face and then him and rachel walk down the hallway laughing like nothing just happened. it was corny and stupid and for a second i got really scarred that the movie would disappoint and be another spidey 3.
2. batman does some sort of manuever with the batpod off the wall it wasn't as bad as schumachers car going up the wall but it was still the same kinda corny comic book shit.

and that was it the rest of the movie i thought was like watching the godfather or heat or any other classic crime drama and i loved it. it better get recognized at the academy.

This movie was just awesome. To those who said they were not any big action scenes, you are crazy. Even if the action scenes were not good enough for you, the acting and plot twists behind this entire movie was just f'ing amazing. And of course, Ledger stole the show. It was just a phenomenal performance. All this Oscar hype he is getting, people wondering if he should even be up for one... of course he should. Does not matter if he is not even with us anymore, you can not deny how amazing he was in this movie. Hell, there was not one scene where the joker was boring or had a corny line... just perfect script, performance, everything, just perfect. Joker stole the show. And thank god Katie Holmes was replaced.

Im just sad to see Ledger will not be around to perform amazing roles like this one in future movies.

"no culmination"... idiotic once again... did you miss the first 30 minutres! come one now! Ledger's role as well as everyone's was fantastic; for you to wonder, (first comment guy) more Joker's... yeah, possibly may have another, but it's like one guy said plenty in Batman universe.... Ivy, Freeze, Two-Face, Riddler, Joker, Penguin,... read some comments, learn about movies before you open your mouth and make yourself look dumber. Story=Great , Action=Great , etc etc etc. This movie is in my Top 5 ever made.

The movie is a complete experience. It's a great story, with great characters giving a great performance. Rarely do you see such uniformly strong performances from so many complex and conflicted characters. Ledger does a brilliant job. But so does Christan Bale as Bruce Wayne as himself and his alter ego Batman. Batman's hunger to find his replacement is palpable. He aches for a true hero, Harvey Dent, so that he is no longer needed. Truly freed from his duty, he would at last have a chance to live a normal life with his love. Casting Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent was absolutely spot on. Early on you sense Harvey Dent's character fragility and brittleness. You can sense how his absolute convictions and beliefs might leave him vulnerable to a major disappointment. I believe this movie forever raises the expectations for this genre of films.

"The Dark Knight" is one moviegoing experience I will not forget soon.

That was one great crime drama! I agree that it somehow takes its place amongst the greatest in that genre - "The Godfather", "GoodFellas", "The Departed".

"The Dark Knight" chronicles the descent of each character into the brooding depths of despair and their constant struggles to discern good from evil, right from wrong, dark from light.

These struggles were brilliantly tackled in this exquisite masterpiece of filmmaking.

Totally unbelievable experience!

For me, "The Dark Knight" is an epic movie not because of the flashy action and the slam-bang explosions, but rather because it tackles the internal emotional struggles of the main characters - from Batman/Bruce Wayne, to Harvey Dent/Two Face, to Commissioner Gordon, to Lucius Fox - in the epic battle of right vs wrong.

I was totally parched when I left the cinema because I was both emotionally drained and uplifted at the same time. Do I make sense? Well, "The Dark Knight" did that to me.

Best Picture, Best Director, Best Story and Best Supporting Actor (Heath Ledger) nominations are warranted for "The Dark Knight" in my opinion.

i thought the movie was great the only downfall was the harvey 'two face' dent character if only they didnt resort to the same 'MUMMY RETURNS' or 'LORD OF THE RINGS' cg effects it looks so fake,

notice how well the joker propelled the movie and his charisma and dialog owned every seen and he did it with a little make-up (well done with the scars i might add)
to use that low budget cg effects didnt do justice to the actual realism the movie had going up to that point, even if they would have used more suttle effects used in terminator 2 wheres half his face is gone cool, but to have his eye moving around in the socket and show all his teeth, its like come on how could he survive that or does it hurt or why would a district attorney just turn bad because of his chick dying was he that pussy whiped

if there is something different in this movie, it is definitely the fact that the bad guys have a character, worth remembering. . .the joker's role has been justifiably played after the 1989 version... and if nothing is as equally memorable... its a movie worth enjoying every minute of..!

I know you'll have some lame comeback like calling me an "idiot" because I didn't agree with you and think The Dark Knight is the "best movie… EVER!!!" But sorry, it's not.

The most disappointing aspect of the film was revealed in the opening scene. The bank job had so much potential; it was an interesting idea. But then someone had to portend to be shot! You're probably thinking, what? But let me explain: bang! "Oh, no! I've been shot (despite the lack of any wound what so ever). I'll fall down now." And that was the standard for the rest of the movie. No blood. Joker is an absolute psycho, but here we have an off-screen psycho. Joker puts the knife in Gamble's mouth and is just about to cut him when … the camera quickly turns away. All I've heard is how "dark" and "adult" this movie is. Really? So where's the violence. And let me pre-empt those of you who will label me as bloodthirsty. I'm not. I just want the realism. I want the Joker to be the R rated psycho he is. One plus on the graphic side was Two-Face. His face was perfection and possibly the highlight of the film.

Okay, now to the action. This film provided exactly what was to be expected as far as action was concerned. Batman Begins set the standard here: blurred movement, off-set camera angels, jagged camera movement and quick editing all resulted in action without detail. Okay, so we can work out that Batman just took a guy out with a few punches, but where did he really hit him? I'll admit this could be personal taste as I enjoy the emphasised slow motion of movies such as 300.

Heath Ledger's performance has been the biggest hype of The Dark Knight. He was good. There were genuinely great scenes that included the Joker. Heath portrayed him well. However, he was underused. This film bares a striking similarity to Spider-man 3 in its overuse of villains. Just as Venom emerged half-way through Spider-man 3 and was then killed, thus not developing a character who is huge in the comics, Joker wasn't given the chance to develop. Obviously they intended to bring him back in future films (hence his survival), but there just weren't enough scenes with this intriguing character. Jack Nicolson's Joker was insanely wonderful. But he wasn't the psycho that Joker truly is. Heath brought that psycho to the role… or at least the script did. We must give credit where credit is due. Times have changed, almost 20 years since Tim Burton's Batman and the scrip allows for psycho element; the knives, the sick plans (Rachel's death and Harvey's transformation into Two-Face was great!). But that was the scrip. Does anyone really believe that given the same scrip Jack Nicolson couldn't make the Joker just as (if not more so) disturbing? My biggest gripe with people's praise of Ledger's performance is the credit they give him for playing the Joker "his way", making it a unique performance unlike any that have gone before. The voice is so much like Jack Nicolson's Joker voice, not exactly but you can hear the similarity. Of course Jack's voice was modelled on Cesar Romero's performance in the camp TV series. But most of all Heath used the heavy breathing through his nose and the licking of his lips that Jack brought to his performance in 1989.

I didn't hate the movie. There were good elements. The Joker's scenes were well written and I must say I loved watching them. Harvey Dent's rise and fall was perfect, even if I would have preferred to see it in another movie so Joker could be the focus of this film. The sonar was clever, just like a real bat. And Gary Oldman was brilliant as Gordon.

I think my expectations were built up by the hype and then I had too far to fall. It's not a bad film. It's just not the great film it was talked up to be.

I was disgusted that I contributed to the box office sales. This was a movie I couldn't wait to end. The special effects drowned the film, and the actors, but maybe it needed it, maybe it lacked the ability to hold on to an audience without it.

I have to agree that you are an idiot. Not because you said movie is dumb idiot because you can't imagine. Do you really need to see what happens to understand what happens? Directors choose not to show so you can imagine what happens. This way it would be more mysterious and gets into your mind.

You are an idiot because just good script would make a good movie. Acting and comedy has one thing in common, everything is in a delivery. Doesn't matter how good of script/joke you have, if you can't deliver the line it isn't any good.

I loved this movie... i am a bigggg Batman fan.. (batman and spiderman).. the movie was great... everything was awesome... One bad thing i didnt like was Bale's Batman voice... too much grunt talking... The baman voice is deep and distinctively different than his Bruce Wayne voice, but the one portrayed is a bit much.. nonetheless great effort... NOW HEATH ROCKED IT!!!! to a T. very spot on ol'chap! he played the joker to his truest sense...not to say he did better than Jack... HUGE fan of the original batman movie.. he reminds me of the dark version in the comics and inthe animated series.. the logic to the insanity to the little funny antics... throwing the wine out of the glass then drinking an empty glas.. CLASSIC joker!! RIP HEATH LEDGER and good job.

Great movie. Not the best of all time as some of y'all have been made to believe simply because of all the hype, but still enjoyable. I think everyone has been brainwashed by all the hype this movie has into thinking its more than it really is. It's a really good film, yes, and I'd recommend anyone to go and watch it, but its nothing to froth at the mouth over.

The Joker is the ultimate schemer and they showed this all through the movie. The laugh put chills down my spine and his insane games he played with a lot of the characters. I have been a Joker fan for a long time and I smiled the whole day after I watched this movie. If this isn't the best movie of the year than at least has to be the best Batman movie of all time.

Anyone who has anything bad to say about this movie should be smacked! This movie ROCKED!It was great to be reminded how awesome Batman is. I can not get over how incredible Ledger was. He played that role so well, I was almost rooting for the Joker to win! All of us were on the edge of our seats the entire movie- just waiting for what he would do next. The world will miss you Heath. Amazing. Simply AMAZING performance. I watched an interview with some of the cast yesterday, and they all said that as soon as he went into character on set, everyone was scared. He lived and Breathed the role of the Joker. 2 Thumbs way up.

The Joker was a little bit too much a times - not quite enough Batman :) A little bit over-hyped.

Michael Caine as Alfred is great. And the Katie Holmes replacement is MUCH better as Batman's lovey dovey lady friend.

OMG!!!!!!!!!OMG!!!!!! this movie was AMAZING its practically orgasmic its so good!! my favortie movie of all time i mean heath ledger the best acting i have ever seen he deserves an oscar for that and michael caine is good too i love him in every movie also holy shit cristian baile is HOT!! much cuter in this than he is in 3:10 to yuma he is much more clean shaven in this!!! to bad heath ledger was covered up in makeup and scars this entire movie cuz he is wicked hot without all that gunk on his face...anyone who doesnt like this movie is stupid and should b shot lol im just kidding but seriously go see this movie if u havent... i've seen it 3 times and i still cant get enough of it

Six?...Heath Ledger is the epitome of the perfect villain. This may sound dumb but honestly my favorite part of the movie is every part with him in it. His facial expressions, his tone, it was all perfect! I can't get enough of it, I laughed my head off. I love how he was chucking the stacks of bills at the guy on top of that huge money pile, I love the bit about "aggressive expansion", of course the magic trick was genius, and how he laughed while coming into the room! and I loved the Dent button he wore while in the hospital, shit the whole hospital scene had me smiling for days, I liked his take on anarchy and how pointless it really is to try and scheme things in life. God, I've already seen that movie three times and so help me, I'm going to see it again. Heath was an amazing actor and the world is now a little darker without him, but his acts in life will go on to inspire and be appreciated for decades to come. The joker can't be topped

first of all i wan to say that the first commenter is an .......he/she dnt knw what a flim is..if u want only action go for some video-games..not for a movie..

n for the movie..its simply supurb..in very angle in every aspect..bt i cnt resist myself to say about late Heath Ledger...he is awesome..i had gone to watch the movie just to see joker as i was disappointed frm d previous batman series..n i was nt a batman fan..n this time im nt disappointed..

seeing this film, I become the fan of batman and as well as Ledger, who potrait the joker character, for which i hv no words..n I think u all guys n gals will agree with me..atleast in this matter..

So. Im going to watch it 2nd time again...

this is the best movie ever i love it and christian bale he is hot even with the batman armour on he is hot lol i want to see this movie again and agin and agin i loved it and so did my friest when it comes out on dvd i will be first in line to buy it

i agree with #154698 heath ledger in the joker was the best part of the movie and i agree that the hospital scene was hilarious especially at the end of the scene where he lifted his arms like thats it then pressed the trigger a bunch of times that was wicked funny

yeah, it was okay. Bit long I thought. I thought the pace of the story dipped 3/4 of the way through too. Ledger was great but I was dissapointed with Bale and I am a big fan of his abilities. He is beyond awesome in The Machinist.

Overall it was pretty good but definitely not up there with my all time faves.

This movie offers viewers a lot more than a crash-bang comic book story. Dark Knight portrays the struggles and pitfalls involved in fighting anti-western terrorism. In all, it is a pro-Bush movie that implores Americans...indeed all freedom loving people to stand tall in the face of terror...but do not sacrifice our core values in the process. The movie makes it clear that most terrorists are not in it for money or material wealth...so there is no negotiating with them.... they just want to see the world burn. Take heed America.
