Sam the Dachshund Says Goodbye

Picture
Dachshund watercolor by Nancy.
Sam the Dachshund lived for two and a half years with his owner, Teddy Crockarell. When Teddy lost his battle with cancer last Monday, Sam disappeared. He was wearing an electric fence collar, and had never strayed from the yard.

The family searched for two and a half days, to no avail.

When they arrived for Teddy's funeral on Thursday, there was Sam, sitting on the church steps, shivering.

The little dog had traveled six miles to a place he had never visited.

You can read the full story, and see a video about Sam in the website of WKRN Nashville, TN News.

Nancy, did you paint that dachshund? It's beautiful. They blogged this at The Long and Short of it All dachshund magazine today too. What a beautiful story. Sad tho too. Thanks for blogging this.

Hi Liz, yes, that dachshund watercolor is one of my dog paintings. Thanks for the nice compliment! I agree that this is a very moving story. Even though I'm on dialup, I went to the site and took time to load the video and watch it. I thought it was neat the way they used the camera to show the "doxie's eye view". It gave a whole new perspective on how far the little guy traveled and the busy road he had to cross. It just floors me.

You're a very talented painter, Nancy. Touching story, too. Bittersweet.

Thank you for the nice compliment, Cat Lady! And I agree about this story. Animals sure know how to deliver some surprises, don't they?
