Microsoft to be Bellevue's biggest employer

Is Bellevue the next Redmond? A big new office lease is expected to make Microsoft the largest employer in the Eastside city adjacent to its hometown, a company spokesman says. Microsoft has leased City Center Plaza, a 26-story office tower under construction at 10903 NE 6th Street in downtown Bellevue, spokesman Lou Gellos confirmed.

The 561,000-square-foot lease deal gives Microsoft room for an additional 2,000 employees in the city. That's on top of its 1,100 people already in Lincoln Square; 2,300 people slated for the Bravern office project, opening a year from now; and 2,125 people expected to occupy the Advanta office complex on the Interstate 90 corridor, starting next month. That will be a total of more than 7,500 people for the company in the city.

The new lease was reported in Seattle's Daily Journal of Commerce this morning. I'm waiting for details on the move-in schedule for City Center Plaza, and I have a call in to Bellevue's Economic Development department to double-check the employment rankings.

No word on the timing of Microsoft's hostile takeover of the Bellevue City Council.

Any word on which groups will be moving into this new space?

Looks like Microsoft has completely dropped Issaquah off their radar.

Thanks, I asked Gellos which group or groups are moving in, and he said that is still to be determined.

Yay! We have a few thousand developers (and their condos, too) to send over there to house them. (Quick--raise the drawbridge.)

This was the last large un-leased space in new construction in Bellevue until what, 2010?

Ever since Bellevue and the e-gov alliance created nwproperty.net things have taken off. http://www.nwproperty.net/home/default.asp

Ah yes - all of the development locally is due to NWProperty.net ...

Correct, it's the last large un-leased space of new construction in Bellevue, but realize that Expedia is vacating around 350,000 SF along I-90. Also, Seattle has a ton of deliveries scheduled in 2009, which will undoubtedly have an effect on Bellevue in one way or another.

Leaving Bellevue at the end of the work day is going to be so much more fun now. Not all condo prices will be headed down.
