New statistics from comScore Networks show Google widening its lead in the U.S. Web search market in March, according to a Citigroup report today that cites the data. Google's 59.8 percent share of U.S. search queries marks a record high, the Citigroup analysts write. Yahoo and Microsoft both fell, to 21.3 percent and 9.4 percent, respectively.
As noted previously, people are paying closer attention to these stats nowadays in light of Microsoft's bid to acquire Yahoo. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer cited declines in Yahoo's search share as one factor in his April 5 letter imposing a three-week deadline on Yahoo for reaching a deal.
