Apple: iPhone gets Microsoft Exchange e-mail

The iPhone will be able to get e-mail via the Microsoft Exchange servers widely used in the corporate world, according to reports out of the Apple special event in Cupertino, Calif., this morning. Apple has licensed Microsoft's ActiveSync technology to enable the feature.

Engadget quotes Apple's Phil Schiller:

"Microsoft has come up with a much more advanced architecture, where the iPhone can work directly with the Exchange server in a more reliable and affordable way. We're building Exchange support so you get push email, push calendaring, push contacts, global address lists, and the ability to remote wipe it."

Very pleased to hear all the latest iPhone news today. Getting Exchange support has been wanted since it was released and now it will be a reality. All good moves with the Enterprise front, as well as, the SDK.

Come June the iPhone will truly be the phone to beat. Now the only thing keeping it down is lack of 3G - which I'm sure will be coming up next.

I think taking a larger share of Facebook would be a good move. Facebook is preparing itself to be the platform of the web and this is exactly what MS needs. Also incorporating facebook services with outlook and hotmail could be extremely useful. Unfortunately, a complete buyout would put MS's name behind the service which could turn users away (as fickle as young people are) so, like the previous 250 million investment, it would need to be quiet."
