Plea deal for ex-Microsoft domain manager

Carolyn Gudmundson, the former Microsoft domain manager charged with stealing money from the company, has entered a guilty plea as part of an agreement with prosecutors (PDF, 12 pages.) According to the agreement, Gudmundson pleaded guilty to a count of mail fraud, one of 18 counts in the original indictment.

Notably, the agreement says the amount to be paid in restitution won't be more than $1 million. Prosecutors said previously that Gudmundson had stolen more than $1 million, but her lawyer, C. James Frush, had disputed that figure, saying he understood it to be less.

By statute, Gudmundson faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000. However, her sentence hasn't yet been determined. Sentencing is scheduled for April 11.

(The agreement was made last month, but it slipped under the radar. It came to light in this post yesterday by Ben Romano.)

Does anyone really care that she stole money from a company with so much money lying around all they can do with it is try and buy Yahoo?

If she went out and blew all this money at the Alderwood Mall that's better than what Ballmer and his toadies would do with it. At least the money is circulating and going back into the community here that they're sucking dry (have you seen the traffic in Redmond these days?).

The judge should reinstate her into her job so she can redistribute more money. That's justice and community service!
