Microsoft has finished Windows Vista Service Pack 1, the big bundle of fixes and updates for the 1-year-old version of the PC operating system. During a presentation to analysts this morning, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said both Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 were released to the manufacturing process today.
an earlier release. In addition to reliability updates and other tweaks, SP1 dials back some of the effects of the Windows Genuine Advantage anti-piracy tool, and makes changes in response to Google's concerns about the way Microsoft incorporates its own desktop-search tool into Vista. In line with past trends, Ballmer said the company is hoping to see more businesses start using Windows Vista as a result of the SP1 release.
"We think we are turning the corner in terms of enterprise adoption and deployment and we think Service Pack 1 will be a big boon," Ballmer told analysts during the Monday morning presentation.
Update, 6:30 a.m.: Microsoft confirmed the news and gave these details:
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) was released to manufacturing today and will start being available to customers in March, starting with Microsoft Volume Licensing customers. Windows Server 2008 was also released to manufacturing today and will be available for purchase to new customers on March 1. Microsoft Volume Licensing customers with active Microsoft Software Assurance coverage or an Enterprise Agreement will be able to download the server software toward the end of February," coinciding with the company's SQL Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008 and Windows Server 2008 launch event.

As soon as Microsoft trims the fat of Vista I'm sure businesses would jump all over it.
If you aren't in marketing or development your company PC isn't going to handle Vista, SP1 or not.
