Xbox 360 tops PS3, trails Wii in initial holiday sales

Microsoft sold more than 310,000 Xbox 360s last week in the United States, according to data released by the company this morning. The number essentially completes the statistical picture for the first week of holiday console sales. Nintendo said previously that it sold 350,000 Wii consoles in the country for the week.

Sony hasn't disclosed the raw number of PlayStation 3 units it sold last week. (A Sony spokeswoman says it will give those numbers when NPD Group stats come out in mid-December.) The company did say that PlayStation 3 hardware sales were up 245 percent last week, when compared with the same week last year, among the top 10 North American retailers. This morning, Microsoft said the Xbox 360 still outsold the PS3 two-to-one last week, according to "estimates from top retailers."

Update, 12:30 p.m.: Sony is disputing Microsoft's statement about the ratio of Xbox 360 to PS3 sales. Here's what Kimberly Otzman, a Sony spokeswoman, said in an e-mail just now:

"It's (Sony Computer Entertainment America) policy not to disclose our unit sales numbers until NPD numbers are officially released which will be December 13th. However, I can assure you that Microsoft's estimates of our PS3 unit sales numbers are way off and they did not outsell PS3 2:1 during Black Friday week."

I've asked a Microsoft representative if the company wants to respond or check its numbers. The original post resumes below.

The different prices for the three consoles means the comparison of unit sales isn't exactly apples-to-apples. It's not the same as comparing hardware revenue and profits. But ultimately, a big goal for each company is to get its console into as many homes as possible, so it's important to watch the market-share race.

More statistical jousting from the three companies:

  • Microsoft says software sales for the Xbox 360 are on track to exceed software sales for the PlayStation 3 and Wii combined this holiday season.

  • Sony says PS3 hardware sales have increased by 298 percent since Nov. 2, with the availability of both the 40 gigabyte and 80 gigabyte models of the console.

  • Nintendo of America said it sold "more Nintendo products than at any other time in its history" last week, including 653,000 Nintendo DS systems and the 350,000 Wii consoles.

See this earlier post for a breakdown of the first year of head-to-head competition among the Wii, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Update, Friday: See this post for the latest console stats in Japan.

I wonder how Microsoft counts "software" sales. If you buy downloaded content is that a sale? Do they count the downloadable arcade games the same as regular games? Are they counting all the bundled games with their arcade 360 as individual sales? Just curious.

The multiplayer games which Microsoft pushes are certainly more amenable to multiple sales than the single player or party games which are more popular on Nintendo's system. I trade most games with my sister's family once we are done with them. However, if we wanted to play a game like Halo online we'd both need copies.

"Does Microsoft count warranty returns as sales????"

Yep. Replacement consoles are factored in Microsoft's 'shipped' numbers. Explains a lot, doesn't it?

XBOX Live drives the whole market. I find a lot of people even buy games just because everyone else is playing them online. I haven't tried the playstation3 but I hear form most people the online gaming is just not as good via PS3. And of course they just don't have as many games. most of the games they do have for it are ports that don't fully use what the ps3 offers.

I have noticed that the estimated amount of xbox 360s sold seems to fluctuate a lot. From some sources the xbox is doing better than the wii, which is almost certainly untrue, and from other sources the xbox is behind it. I don't think that we can trust most of the estimates, especially with them counting warranty returns as sales. If you search a forum about the xbox you will see a lot of comments and threads about failing xboxes. Some over three times. That would add a significant amount of "sales" to their number. It is vital for a console to be able to say that it has sold more consoles than others, because they hope to catch those people who want the system that the most of their friends will have. Because it is so important some companies will work hard to find loopholes to add to their sales number.

Wow. More Propaganda from Microsoft... How suprising! The top 10 retailers report PS3 was the top selling item Thanksgiving week. Then M$ reports a whole batch of new numbers. They're gonna be like "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" soon. The Microsoft Propaganda machine rolls on.

The XBoxHD is coming out Q4 2008. So many upgrades, so little time.

Were did you see the PS3 was top selling... I think your stats are about 2 weeks old, from when they lowered the price.

anyway -- the one thing we can be sure of is that this time around there is going to be some real competition on all three platforms, and for us the game players that is all that matters! =)

Posted by eagles2k3 at 11/29/07 6:49 p.m.

Uh....there's no way the PS3 is selling like they "think" it is. Let's see some numbers. I walked into target the other day and wii's and 360's were flying of the shelves. there were a couple of PS3's sitting there and no one was even looking at them in the 15 minutes I sat there.

#71004

You were at one store in one location, not every store in every location, so it isn't really a big enough sample size to form an opinion on.

#71005

Posted by unregistered user at 11/29/07 6:55 p.m.

I've too have been to several stores (looking for a lucky Wii) and saw several PS3 at every store. The only Xbox I saw was one Halo Edition. No Wii's -- But I did find the Rock Band Boxed set for the 360 -- picked that up. I was happy!

#71007

Posted by unregistered user at 11/29/07 7:00 p.m.

Great find, but several stores usually means you search a mall or go to a few stores in the city, but not go to a few stores in Western Canada, a few in California, some in florida and some in Vancouver. Again it is not quite a beg enough sample size.

#71008

Posted by unregistered user at 11/29/07 7:02 p.m.

The area I was able to find several PS3's and no Wii's or 360's was Salt Lake City, UT (actually most of Salt Lake County) -- others who have seen the same please let us know where. We can increase our sampling area.

can't find a Wii anywhere and only found a hand full of xbox 360 systems, but I did see PS3 systems everywhere. Heck at the local fry's store there were 2 stacks of PS3s that had 40 systems each

so I found more PS3 systems at one store then xbox360 and wiis I found total.

I'm in dallas texas btw
our sample size big enough yet

I guess people don't really want a true high definition system! just because everybody eats at the Olive Garden dosen't mean its good food, people are sheep! The PS3 is your best investment hands down! In 3 years games will taper off for the Wii and Micro$oft will probably have fixed the "red ring of death" syndrome by then-
I know people that have had to send in their 360s
due to overheating issues!! The PS3 will still be kicking in 10 years and won't,like xbox have their manufacturer abandon the current system-

In 3 years???? You really think you will still have the PS3 in 3 years? Look at the market...you're their little pon...they will just come out with another system in a year or two that costs a thousand dollars...The "latest, greatest" will become tomorrows garbage soon enough. i work for gamestop in houston. Sold 45 wiis friday morning in about 15 minutes. we sold out of 360's and had to get extra ones transferred in from other stores. Ended up selling them before the day was over. I think we sol 3 or 4 ps3's.

#71051

Posted by unregistered user at 11/29/07 10:10 p.m.

Think about it. The ps3 is capable of doing things that no games have even tapped into yet. In three years there will likely be games that use all of teh ps3's potentual. Sony would be insane to release another system then! They would sell...2-3 systems in total, and what is there to improve on if their current system is already loads more powerfull than the others.

Depending on how much power the ps3 has the longer it will take for there to be demand for a new one.

What is it with you Americans? There is a world outside of the good old US of A. When I read these posts you all seem to think consoles will live or die by their results in the states. The PS3 is slaughtering XBox in Japan and is pounding Xbox in Europe now. Ps3 has sold more units since it's release here in UK in March than Xbox 360 has since it's release over a year before. Microsoft will always have the edge on Sony in the states as you Americans love to buy anything made in the states.

I went to a Best Buy in Reading (pronounced REEDING) Pennsylvania, Also hit the Game stop, Circuit City, Target, Wall Mart, and Kmart in search of a WII that my parents want for Christmas. Didn't find any of those, the 360 was sold out at most places but there were about 5 or 6 total at all those stores, the PS3 however was every where in bulk to. Best buy had about 100 of them stacked in the isles and on the shelves, but no 360s or WIIs.
All my friends now have 360s, its only a matter of time until Sony must concede the fact that they are getting wooped in the US.

The cell processor is a horrible processor. As a computer engineer I have been studying its architecture for the past 2 years and I can tell you that its processing power will not get tapped. The games you are seeing from the PS3 right now are as good as they are going to get. The cell was designed for scientific computing and not games; Even the scientific community is unsure about how to use the cell because it requires too much effort by the programmer to use.

there is no 360HD in the works right now that anyone knows about.
you are simply stating a blatant lie that heard from some b.s. website or one of your lame friends who thinks they know whats going on. and that you wish was true.

There has been speculation about it but there has been 100% denial from all parties involved.
MS, Toshiba, Hitachi, everyone denies any knoweldge of any hd based 360.

but denial is part of the game also. it keeps their future plans secret from the competition so they can drop a bomb on them.

it would be nice to see a xbox360 roadmap.

I'm from San Francisco, I just walked into Best Buys and Circuit City last night. To my surprice stacks and stacks for PS3 on three ailes no one buying them. There are no Wiis and 360s in sight. Went to return a movie at the customer counter, behold a guy on line in front of me..returning a PS3 and an another PS3 on the floor returned probably just returned in two hours. What can you say. I have a PS3 at home and a 360, never bought a single game for it and have a dozen games for 360. At least the PS3 is a great upconverting DVD player and a good HD player. Sony is losing thier focus, just look at the free bee..a Blu-ray movie instead of a game!! 360 offered 2 HD games packed in this black friday. Go figure. Sony intead lost it touch with gamers, I just don't know how could they survive without a high attachment game rate. All I hearing now is how great the PS3 is a cheap Blu-ray machine. SAD...Very..SAD...Sorry PS3 will never be as PS2 was. This is the reality.

Xbox360 sales in japan last 2 weeks 5000 per week, PS3 sales 55000 per week same kind of figures all over Europe. I guess it just proves what the rest of the world knows about the good ol US of A.
Let me ask you 1. Are you American. 2. Do you own a passport. If the answer to 1 was yes and 2 no try to imagine there is a world that exists outside of your blinkered existence and that it also makes a lot of money, all of which is worth a hell of a lot more than the almighty dollar. Outside America believe it or not almost everyone owns a passport which allows us to travel and sample different cultures and lifestyles which in turn feeds the mind and allows us to make intelligent, informed choices. A prevelant factor in why xbox360 is getting the hiding of its life and with PS3 figures up 300 percent in the last two weeks in the USA as well there may be hope for the intelligent and informed people of America yet. Obviously they wont get to read this because I've only seen posts from fanboys and stooges.
Is it me or are there an awful lot of computer engineers writing about sony architecture these days Hmm are you M$ certified or just certifiable.
America F**k Yeah.

Why do europeans always get mad at americans for not caring a lot about europeans or pretty much anyone else? Look, we know that you guys are great people with many interesting cultures and amazing cities, etc. We just dont see you often enough to consider you in our daily lives. We live in a huge nation with hundreds of cities. All of our needs and desires are easily met and there is still so much more after that.
its hard to get around to considering other countries when your own is so vast.
There are cars, foods, religions, technologies, cities, even countries in europe that we dont know about... or care to know about. You think this makes us stupid or weak. It does not. It means that we are not concerned. We are strong here as americans. We are all into our part of the world where we are free to do as we will. For those of us here who love to game, we want to be able to do that freely... here in our own homes... in america. So please forgive us for not caring about how things are going for consoles in japan or europe. If we want great games to come to America, they will give us great games, because we have the cash and the intent to buy and play them.
If the 360 does poorly in other regions and does well here, do you imagine that we care? We do not. we will get what we want and that is what matters in the end.
I imagine that canadians understand where I am coming from. The dynamics change when you are in a large country. Small tightly packed nations are cool and all... but here we call them states.

I don't understand why nobody is rooting for Microsoft's 360, which is from an American company based in the Seattle area that does a hell of a lot for the region.

Secondly, I have to agree with the comment about Europeans, and add to that, Microsoft's 360 is selling remarkably well considering all the hate and venom your part of the world has for American companies (even though Microsoft has nothing to do with war and is very international)

I would just like to point out that if the Xbox 360 attempted to come out with Rachet and clank it would have to be written on 5 discs, and on top of that it would never be intrue HD because it wouldn't have been written on an HD Disc. I remember the days when I had to do that on the computer like 8 years ago, aren't we on to the Next-Gen consoles? Plus Halo 1 is still the best. Plus if anybody out there can tell me if you have had to take back a ps3 because of over heating or manufacturing quality errors leave a comment. plus to buy an xbox with an HD player (games not HD) you have to spend like $550 and people say the PS3 is too expensive.

Let's see.....why do I not care about anything outside the US when it comes to consoles? Because I don't play role playing games and I hate Hello Kitty.

All you PS3 boys got is "just wait until MGS4." I got some news for you....you ain't gonna see MGS4 until the PS3 actually has sold enough units that Konami can get a return on their investment, or until Sony pays them to release it earlier. Any other great PS3 exclusives?, any that have shipped.... I thought so.

you might call some of them states but Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania & Massachusetts are actually Commonwealths. They chose to be so after the war of independence to make it clear they were no longer royal colonies answering to the King.
The point being that just because I live in Europe I still take an interest in other nations because to do otherwise would be ignorant and dismissive.
Similarly the companies manufacturing these consoles are global companies distributing worldwide so to concentrate on one region would by comparison also be ignorant given the context of the argument.

kill zone, rachet and clank, Drake's fortune, Gran Turismo(the #10 best selling series of all time "whats Project Gotham Racing a batman game?")GOD OF WAR, Heavenly Sword, Haze, Daxter And Jax, I mean the list doesn't stop. Also what exactly does Xbox have as far as exclusives? Halo....... Halo...... Halo, oh there is fable and Bio shock which you can buy on a computer because we are dealing with the people who made windows here. I don't own an Xbox but I do own "XBOX ONLY" games on my computer. Try that with a sony game.

I see both sides skewing their numbers. Neither Microsoft nor Sony have taken the high ground and admitted the Wii was really the right approach for this generation of consoles. I have no doubt Nintendo will be the first to offer a console in the next generations (HD Wii) far earlier than Microsoft or Sony would like. The whole plan was for this generation to last a long time, but Nintendo decided to compete against the PS2 now and the other guys in 3-5 years.

As a gamer, I like the 360 best, but the Wii was just a better business model. No offense to the PS3, but I'm not getting one until there are at least 4 or 5 top games that I must have but can't get on the 360. Right now there is 1(R&C), but I'd never count Sony out. MSG4 looks really good. I see why the PS3 owners talk about it so much.

FACT: Xbox 360 software sales commonly surpase Wii + PS3 software sales COMBINED.

FACT: Xbox is CHEAPER & EASIER to develop for.

QUESTION: If you were a developer, which system do you want to work on?

some people haven't ever heard of type-o's sad. See the disc that ps3 writes their gmes on has 25 gigabytes. Xbox 360 writes there games on a 4.5 gigabyte disc which the ps1 used and the ps2 stil uses. I would also like to point out that the ps2 still the #1 console ever. It's done better than Xbox, Xbox 360, Nintendo gamcube or the wii combined. One Refurb consoles do get re-counted people and second Blu-ray and HD DVD are at a stallmate right now. Way else did Howard Stringer the big man at Sony say he wished he could go back in time and have both formats combined and work together, because blu-ray isn't selling like hd dvd players. Yeah PS3s are selling but thats not a stand along now is it. Get a clue people Sony is hurting. I own both 360 and Ps3 but I'm still real about what the market is doing.

and falling 360 stats and a failed old console is what microsoft is working with oh yeah and 4.5 gigabyte discs just like the console that failed. lacking the ability to write even a 1/5 of the informating you can write on the ps3 discs. less information and memory being used means lower quality gaming and lower quality definition

according to stock brokers and day traders the first time that microsoft even made any money on there xbox or xbox 360 consoles is when halo 3 came out. Thats like 4 or 5 years of losing money. If you look at stats the Xbox has sold like 12 millionunits over the course of 2 years sony has sold 7 million units over the course of 1 year.

Anyone that support Sony and Blueray should have their heads examined. This is the same company that tried to put backdoors on your computer to monitor what you do with music..not once, but two different times. You want these guys to have rights to the content, the media format, the media, and the DRM? What you are freaking nuts? Go ahead and buy a PS3.. but hell don't buy any blueray movies.

if you buy a PS3 game you are buying a blue ray disc.... oh and rachet and clank takes up 22 gigabytes on the blu-ray disc, try fitting that one on your XBOX systems. Listen if Microsoft wants to hang back with ps2 quality everything let them. If you want higher audio and visual definition and want a new way to play games besides smashing buttons over and over or just pointing you gun and shooting get a PS3 or Wii. And I'm still confused about call of duty four. Which part was next gen the pointing or the shooting?

I own both consoles (PS3 and 360), and i'm not a fanboy.. but let me tell you that Microsoft's console is a piece of crap compared to the PS3!
I just don't know how you can support a console that you paid 500$ and that produces more noise than an airplane...

It's funny watching these PS3 fanboys screech and cry. They throw out things like "the 360's falling numbers". ????? Xbox's sales have been steadily growing, and aside from the clearance "we're getting our rear ends handed to us" sales that Sony has been putting on (which only lead to a 1-2 week spurt of sales that doesn't surpass the Xbox's sales), the Xbox has been out performing the PS3 CONSISTENTLY.

Face it, you guys can name call, and spout false "facts" that you pull out of your trousers, but the Xbox is still kicking the PS3's rear.

i said i wasn't a fanboy (don't know how to read stup?)
I didn't said that SONY was selling more than 360 or whatever. I just said that Sony's console i far ahead the 360. But you're right, Microsoft is selling more (so far) it may change, and it may not... who cares, i got the 2 consoles and i have the best of both world!
What i don't like with Microsoft is that they always release a new version. Initially, the HDMI was only suppose to be with the elite version, but now it's on every new manufactured console. And people like us who bought there console early, are screwed. You have a version of your console.. stick with it. That's what i hate with MS. Plus, they should try to fix that crappy dvd-drive and the ring of death, which i had on my console.

again the ps3 runs at 1.8 teraflops a second what does the Xbox run at? .5 oops or is that just more ps3 bullshit? Again blue dragon was written on 3 discs ps3 could have written it twice over one one disc.... but that ps3 just talking shit right? Or could it be that rachet and clank alone needed 5 times the amount of memory to write it just because of graphics. But Halo 3 some how has better graphics? I guess if microsoft told you that the sky was falling you would believe that too huh?

For you ps3 fanboy's please answer these questions..

If your system is so awesome, and selling. Then why would sony make 4 different type's of your PS3 and drop prices not once but twice within a year? Because we all know that spells success

How many X sony exclusive games have gone multi platform?

The new Rachet and Clank is the highest ranked title on the ps3 on the gamer rankings. what position did it rank (here is a hint it not higher than 250)

If you sell 3 ps3 one week and the next week you sold 9. You better start celebrating your profits just grew 300% and you need to tell every one where selling like hot cakes.

I have always bought all systems, I never wanted to miss out on the games I love. But sony didn't listen to what gamers want and push there movie format.

And here is the big question... WHY DID YOU BUY A PS3.

"More statistical jousting from the three companies:"
Teah, but would you let your toddlers play with any of them? Thank God for wireless with whatever companies I know a few teenagers that would & do love to play with tech toys. Those that do, very much do love there 360's, though many parents question the violence of all video games with arcade like addictions possibly contributing to obesety or violence in the frenzie of X-mass shoppers & Scrooges

I live in England, and from my perspective as someone considering whether to go 360 or ps3, the weekly unit sales of the consoles isn't that important to me; after all, shouldn't the 360 be selling considerably less consoles having been out so long? I mean nearly everyone I know has one, which will probably swing my final decision if I'm honest (after switching from PSP to DS following my inability to find anyone else to play!)

The perks as I see them of the ps3 are many; firstly you get a Blu - Ray player, the games are high definition and it definitely has the kudos. the only thing I am sceptical of is Sony's latest advertisement that the console can 'think for itself' I'm pretty sure that if a company had achieved true artificial intelligence, then it probably wouldn't be put to work trying to stop you shooting the 'baddies' in a computer game! That aside there is no way of getting around the fact that the ps3 is definitely the technologically advanced console; it's all there in back and white under 'specifications'. however this alone is not what makes a good system; I mean the original Xbox let you rip a CD onto its hard drive so you could listen to whatever you wanted while playing project Gothem, rather than the irritating radio, the game cube had miraculously short loading times compared to the other 2 consoles, but the ps2 didn't even support 4 person play without buying those weird 'L' shaped things. I even remember the first bunch of ps2's froze up after a couple of months! Yet it had the right balance of technology to price (and style - game cube) to make it popular, and in turn got all the games.

I went into 'GAME' and 'Game Station' (the UK's two largest high street stores) yesterday and in both the Xbox dominated about a third of the total store layout and easily twice that in customer interest. there were lots of 2nd hand Xbox software around (most likely the techno freaks who have to have the latest thing trading in their Xboxes for ps3's) Wii probably had just under a quarter of the store, mostly devoted to selling the console, not games, and slightly less for the ps3. Half of the ps3's display area was taken up by Blu-Ray movies and there didn't seem to be much in the way of good value promotions (bare in mind the UK has just this month had its ps3 price drop)

I think overall it's simple - the ps3 has the best technology but it doesn't have the market share to dominate the games side of things and I think it best to steer clear of buying a ps3 for Blu-ray capability - or the Xbox for the HD DVD - not only will stand alone players perform much better than a console, but you are buying into a format war far more aggressive and less sustainable than the consol war - it is fair to say that in 5 years the Xbox n ps3 will still be around, whoever wins, the future is less certain for the movie formats - one or other could have one, they could have gone the way of super audio, or both been replaced (likely considering the move away from physical media and the fact that cinema projectors are moving towards encrypted digital files from the traditional celluloid) I've already noticed that on the advert for transformers it says coming to 'DVD and HD DVD Monday' - no mention of Blu ray, so its best to base your purchase on the games, not the movie player.

I'm new to this forum. But I'm going to make one post and one post only and try to demonstrate an impartial opinion on what I see in the video game market place. For readability, I'll break my arguments up into sections:

My biases:
I hate Microsoft as a company. I loved playing halo 2 on my buddies xbox. I loved playing Final Fantasy 7 and 9. I hate spending allot of money on games because I hate paying money to waste time. I've only ever bought an N64 and a wii because I love zelda, mario, mario kart and smash brothers. I'm a casual gamer.

To foreigners:
Americans do not think about the outside world. It is our flaw. But you can't blame us. Our only neighbors are Canada and Mexico. And we don't exactly have arguments with them. We've grown up in a sheltered environment. Blame geography. But yes, we should try and open our minds. But also, you should also understand this is how we are. Everyone needs to compromise. That being said, for the remainder of this "article". I'm going to focus on the American market since most people on this forum seem to be American.

Americans:
Read above. We are sheltered. Accept it. Open your eyes and see the rest of the world. Xbox is doing well. But unless they can figure how to break into the Japan and European markets, Microsoft will never "bury" Playstation.

Software:
There are more Xbox360s in the US than either other console. So of course they are winning with software sales here in the US. PS3 has the disadvantage. But remember, content doesn't just mean whats offered now. Backwards compatibility is also a factor. That is where Sony and Nintendo excel. Because they both have several legacy systems worth of software. All sides have their advantages.

Hardware:
Sorry to say....but hardware isn't the most important thing. Just because something has the best graphics or hard drive or blueray or HD doesn't matter. The market decides whats important. And recent studies have shown that the user interface is currently the most important to consumers. (I minored in Entrepreneurship. Sorry computer engineers, power isn't the most important) Thats why the ipod has been so big. Apple knew it, nintendo saw it. Microsoft and sony missed the boat. Fact is, kids want the wii, 20 somethings want the wii, old folks want the wii. It has sold out for the past year, and will continue to do so. Now thats not a bad thing for the other two. Honestly, nintendo doesn't really compete with the other two. It compliments them. Many people will buy either and xbox or a ps and THEN buy a wii. So you can't really say "wii is the winner". Whats important now, is how the other two react. Sony dropped it's price and Microsoft came out with a casual gamer version.
All 3 consoles are doing well. And in different markets. It's great to see that the media has finally recognized how big of a market gaming is. Just look at all the press.

bottom line:
Unless people get bored with the idea of the wii (which may be possible), no one is going to catch it. So lets just ignore that. I think it's still too early to call a winner on the other two. Fact is, if you compare year one of xbox360 to year 1 of PS3, their just about identical in hardware sales. If this trend continues, then 5 years from now your going to see PS3: 100 million sold ; xbox: 105 million sold. WOW, such a big difference. Whats going to determine who wins is how they play the game from here. Again, microsoft came out with a wii-like version and sony slashed prices. Their both trying to do things to win out. To be honest, in the end, I think their all going to sell huge numbers of hardware and software. Which is good for you guys. I mean.....it's good for everyone. (except school teachers). So how bout you guys just all agree that all three consoles are awesome and the future looks very bright for gaming.

Sincerely,
I am Oudeis

Whoever said PS3 is selling more units in Europe than Xbox 360, then im afraid you do not either live in Europe or are retarded.
You go into a shop in the UK, you will find tons of Ps3's in the shop with no-one even knowing they exist.

I live in the UK and last time I looked that was in Europe! I am not retarded either but I can read sales figures and I can see when I visit shops. Xboxes are plentiful here in Uk but PS3 has sold out in many stores so I really don't know where you are getting your nonsense from. The PS3 won't live or die by US sales, as long as stays as strong elsewhere it will survive without the yanks.

FEATURED COMMENT

PictureI think taking a larger share of Facebook would be a good move. Facebook is preparing itself to be the platform of the web and this is exactly what MS needs. Also incorporating facebook services with outlook and hotmail could be extremely useful. Unfortunately, a complete buyout would put MS's name behind the service which could turn users away (as fickle as young people are) so, like the previous 250 million investment, it would need to be quiet."
