Microsoft says CIO dismissed after investigation

Microsoft this afternoon said it dismissed its chief information officer, Stuart Scott, "after an investigation for violation of company policies." The termination was effective Friday.

The full statement from company spokesman Lou Gellos: "We can confirm that Stuart Scott's employment with Microsoft was terminated after an investigation for violation of company policies. In the interim, Microsoft GM Shahla Aly and Corp. VP Alain Crozier will assume his responsibilities until a replacement is identified."

The company isn't giving any details beyond that. I'll update this post if I find out anything else. Microsoft's chief information officer oversees the company's internal computer systems and its corporate network, including the use of pre-release products by employees. Scott joined the company two years ago.

Update, Wednesday: Ousted Microsoft CIO's house for sale since Sept.

You hear that sound? That is the sound of a thousand internet Microsoft conspiracy buffs posting to their favorite message board with some brand new conspiracies.

PS. The AP story revering to Xbox Live as a "Site" in the ESPN content on Xbox Live is not quite right. Xbox Live is a network and a media content delivery system. There is no web browser on the Xbox and Xbox Live is not really a website.

He was railroaded, and terminated on a trumped up "investigation".
Not to mention, I'm pretty sure it's semi-illegal to discuss the reason for his termination. Rather than give the usual statement that he is moving on to pursue other endeavors, they decided to take the low road.

Whatever, Stuart Scott will have the last laugh, I'm sure!

Poetic Justice. This guy was known at GE for cutting costs through layoffs.

His first act as CIO at GE Consumer Products was to place curtains over the glass-walled office to block the view of lesser employees. He then tried to build a new executive-only restroom while meeting his budget challenges by laying off employees.

Fortunately, the construction plan was overturned and he quickly moved onto Microsoft.

I'm fairly certain the facts about his downfall will come out. The same fate will befall any CIO... that tries to deploy the Vista O/S in their organization. A customer tonight told me that a Microsoft employee at a MS call center told him under no uncertain terms, to never, ever, let a store sell him a machine running Vista. I'm just sorry that Mr. Scott never had such good advice given to him, or we would not be here, reading this, tonight.

what a load of garbage! Scott was pushed out because the company did not want to change. 2 years ago the evil empire started hiring external execs to bring in fresh ideas and enterprise thinking... who is left? Turner? Who cares! 4 year MS vet Scott Di Valerio split last week... the only reason he did not get a "pink slip" was he beat them to the punch and quit.
Dumbest thing Mr. Gates has done yet is to allow Turner to fire a C level exec on bogus allegations, slander his good name and expect he'll just go away.

Hmmm, lets do the math. 17 years as an Exec at GE + 2 years at MSFT as CIO = job offers from any company in America who wants the skill of a GE trained veteran with the knowledge of how to beat MS!

Knock Knock. Who's there? Ummm, Google, Yahoo, Apple, any business who competes with MS, the list goes on. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I think Mr. Jobs needs to grab Mr. Scott and put an end to this game once and for all.

Hey MS! Keep making these great decisions. You are only making your competition more powerful.

Sudden termination of exec. It is strong sign of sell for the stock whatever the reason is. If the company accuses the person. I would challenge them by asking who hired and for what. This seems to have ugly smell of office politics...

Be realistic, folks. In this litigious age, to be an executive who is fired outright, he did something illegal or that opened the company to major liabilities. Otherwise they wouldn't risk being sued by saying he was fired.
