I went over to the Apple store in Seattle this morning, at the University Village shopping center, planning to talk to all the iPhone fanatics waiting in line for tomorrow, as in New York City. But this is what I found, below, as of 10 a.m. Granted it was raining, but we're used to that, after all. I circled back later, after the sun broke through, and still no one. I'll check back later today.
Update, 4 p.m.: Back at University Village. Still no line.
Update, 6:10 p.m.: We have a line: Two people so far. The first in line, Greg Korsgard, 29, of Bellevue, has been here for about two hours, and he has already broken his Verizon Wireless contract so that he can sign up for the AT&T service along with his new iPhone. A longtime Apple user, he said he wanted to have the new phone the first day so he didn't have to bother with backorders.
The other person in line declined to give his name because, as far as his employer knows, he'll be "working from home" tomorrow.
Update, Friday morning: The line at University Village is now well over 60 people, and growing quickly, stretching all the way around a nearby corner and down the walkway next to the parking lot. In talking with the people in line, one trend that stands out is that some small businesses are buying iPhones for use as part of their operations. There are several groups of three or more people whose employers have sent them to wait in line for that reason.
Update, 11:30 a.m.: Before leaving, I checked the count again, and it's getting close to 100 people now. The line has now stretched beyond the parking lot walkway and into the cluster of shops to the west of the Apple store. See this story by the P-I's Daniel Lathrop for more.

I did stand outside that store to get my copy of OS 10.4 Tiger.

Others can wait a little while and within maybe a week, order direct from Apple's online Store. Some of the number shipping will literally be shipped direct to the customer and arrive at her or his home or office.
No trips to the ATT store would be required for activation, since iTunes Store is said to be an activation portal; so why wait in line? I can say this, since aren't any Apple Stores in my state. ATT's support here may vary. Cingular was here before SBC/ATT bought them, then went away...

I have to wonder how many units Microsoft is going to buy for the Windows Mobile team to take a look at the competition.

Actually Microsoft had a phone OS/mobile OS long before Apple did not counting the Apple Newton.

I think taking a larger share of Facebook would be a good move. Facebook is preparing itself to be the platform of the web and this is exactly what MS needs. Also incorporating facebook services with outlook and hotmail could be extremely useful. Unfortunately, a complete buyout would put MS's name behind the service which could turn users away (as fickle as young people are) so, like the previous 250 million investment, it would need to be quiet."

Same story at the ATT stores in Spokane. I was all ready to talk to the people waiting in line and there isn't anyone. I'm going to check back tomorrow morning.
