For your enjoyment this holiday week, here are some of the most interesting, entertaining and just plain off-the-wall Microsoft-related videos available online.
Computer Bowl VI: Part 1 and Part 2 (Internet Archive). "Computer Chronicles" trivia contest from 1994, featuring contestants Bill Gates, Bill Joy, Mitchell Kapor and other tech notables. Sample question: "In 1976, a computer fair was held in Atlantic City, N.J. At that show, Steve Jobs ripped his blue jeans. Another attendee came to his rescue and sewed him up." Who was it? Gates almost got it right, but his answer was judged incorrect. (Note: These are big files, with long download times, but Part 2 can be streamed.)Apple-Microsoft 1997: Steve Jobs and Bill Gates (YouTube). This is the famous (or infamous, depending on your perspective) announcement at Macworld Boston 1997, with Gates appearing via satellite on the large screen above the stage. Combine that with the raw emotion coming from the crowd, and it's a pretty incredible scene. You might remember the Hollywood version from the 1999 movie, "Pirates of Silicon Valley." And while we're at it, to come full circle, here's "Pirates" star Noah Wyle reprising his role as Jobs at the real Macworld 1999, before Jobs comes out and explains how Wyle is getting it all wrong.
Comdex Spring 92: A vintage "Computer Chronicles" episode (Internet Archive), focusing in part on Windows 3.1 and the competition with IBM's OS/2.
Windows 95 promo: Gates as "Doom" character (Google Video).
VW ad spoof: Gates and Ballmer poking fun at Sun Microsystems (YouTube).
Scott McNealy's zingers: A video compilation of some of the Sun chairman's comments about Microsoft over the years (CNet News.com).
CES 2005: Bill Gates and Conan O'Brien (YouTube). The Microsoft chairman and the talk-show host suffer through some awkward moments when a demo fails, but they ultimately get things to work, showing some photos of their Las Vegas "adventures." You can access the complete keynote on this Microsoft page.
Professional Developers Conference 2005: Bill Gates and Napoleon Dynamite (iFilm, originally from LonghornBlogs.com). Microsoft often produces lighthearted videos for its conferences, and this one was an instant hit. Sample dialogue: Gates: "Where do you want to go today?" Napoleon: "Wherever I feel like I want to go. Gosh!" Be sure to stick with this video until the end.
Xbox launch: Gates promotes Microsoft's original video-game console on a zany Japanese television show (YouTube). This one is slightly surreal.
Additional notes: I've obviously left out a couple undisputed classics starring Ballmer, but I'm assuming most people have seen those videos already. Also, if anyone can find Gates' guest appearance on "Frasier," a clear version of the Gates-Ballmer "Matrix" spoof from 2003, or a Microsoft VH1 parody called "Behind the Technology," please let me know, and I'll link to them, as well.

I think taking a larger share of Facebook would be a good move. Facebook is preparing itself to be the platform of the web and this is exactly what MS needs. Also incorporating facebook services with outlook and hotmail could be extremely useful. Unfortunately, a complete buyout would put MS's name behind the service which could turn users away (as fickle as young people are) so, like the previous 250 million investment, it would need to be quiet."
