Bloggers quiz Bill Gates

Fourteeen influential bloggers spent time meeting with people from Microsoft in Redmond on Wednesday, concluding with an hour-long session with Bill Gates. On his Micro Persuasion blog, Steve Rubel has an interesting summary of the questions and answers. Giga Om's Liz Gannes posts about the meeting here.

The standard "What's on your iPod" inquiry doesn't exactly work with the Microsoft chairman, so Rubel's first question was more savvy: "What's on your Zune?" he asked. Rubel reports that Gates said he has lots of U2 plus "a lot more musicals than you might expect," such as Wicked. Who knew?

Update: Niall Kennedy was also there, and he posed some very interesting questions, first asking Gates whether Microsoft played a behind-the-scenes financial role in support of the SCO Group's Linux-related litigation, as many people in the open-source community have long believed, and Microsoft has long denied. Kennedy also quizzed Gates about Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer's recent claims about intellectual property violations in Linux.

You can read Kennedy's transcript of the exchange on his blog.

Gates' answer to the question about a financial role in the SCO litigation will no doubt get some attention on Groklaw and other sites. "I don't know anything about it," he replied, according to Kennedy's transcript. "Is SCO still around?"

FEATURED COMMENT

PictureI think taking a larger share of Facebook would be a good move. Facebook is preparing itself to be the platform of the web and this is exactly what MS needs. Also incorporating facebook services with outlook and hotmail could be extremely useful. Unfortunately, a complete buyout would put MS's name behind the service which could turn users away (as fickle as young people are) so, like the previous 250 million investment, it would need to be quiet."
