Lots of people in the technology world like to debate the relative merits of Apple vs. Microsoft, as evidenced by the healthy response to this week's Leopard vs. Vista post. And it's fun to make comparisons, to a point. But elements of that thread reflected another sentiment, as expressed in these two comments:

Macs, PC's ... who cares? They're both just computers. I use them both, like them both. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. Why do people get so defensive about one over the other? Just gimme a computer that does what I want. That's all I ask.

Buy what you want and let others buy what they want. What is the point in arguing about what others should want?

I bring this up now because David Pogue of the New York Times has an interesting post today on this subject, explaining why he believes there really isn't a war between the companies. It's worth reading.
