August 25, 2004XP Service Pack 2 CDThe most common question from P-I readers after Microsoft finished Service Pack 2 was how they could get it on a CD in the mail. (At 80 to 100 megabytes, after compression, the file is too much for many dial-up Internet users.) As part of the continued rollout of the update, Microsoft today began taking orders for the CD through this page on its Web site. Allison Linn of the Associated Press updates the status of the service pack rollout in this story. Posted by Todd Bishop at August 25, 2004 03:46 PMComments
the fact that microsoft produces badly flawed software that floods the market and cuts out other o.s is an issue that has been addressed but that they cannot fix the oviouse problems with xp even when given so much time really says how much they care for the customer. windows...hackable...expensive...in short crap It is clear that ed is a dour old jerk who has made up his mind. I don't know why he would even be posting a comment about Windows XP service packs. Yes, Linux is an option, but Windows is a perfectly good operating system. I use both SuSe Linux and Windows XP Pro regularly. If I could, I'd choose only one operating system and stick with it. Unfortunately that isn't an option for me, nor is it an option for many like me. Most people who have home PC's that they could run Linux on, also have work PC's that they have no control over. People who don't enjoy playing with their computers for the sake of playing with their computers, certainly wouldn't want to have to keep up with two different operating systems. Most people just don't care. Windows is a fine operating system for them. Personally, I use Windows way more than I do Linux. As a software deveoper who'd lke to get paid for what I do, Windows is the only real option. I have written software for Linux and compared to Windows development with Delphi or Visual Studio.NET, developing on Linux is like building a house with stone hammers. Religious zealots who want to build a faith around open source software are welcome to their opinions, but the rest of us just want to get a little work done, and maybe get paid for it at teh end of the day. -- Post a comment
