New search-engine poll
We changed the poll question on our Microsoft page today. The new one: "In five years, who will dominate the search-engine market?" Your options: Google, Microsoft, Yahoo!, someone else, or no one. You can go to this page to weigh in. If you answer "someone else," or if you'd just like to explain why you voted the way you did, feel free to comment at the bottom of this post.
It's important to remember that these polls aren't meant to be scientific samplings of public opinion. Among other things, given our geographic location, there tends be a disproportionate number of Microsoft employees, and people related to Microsoft employees, among our readership. But for the record, about 68 percent of the 140 people who responded to the previous question -- "Will Microsoft remain the major power in software during the next 10 years?" -- answered "yes."

Google is already dominating the search engine market. I believe that Yahoo (owns Overture.com), MSN (beta searcher) and A9.com (Amazon.com's portal) are closly behind. Even AOL is now making their own search engine (instead of using Google results).
