Countdown to Foob Surgery #2

This time next week I'll be kickin' back in Eugene in Trixie (our RV) with my hubby and dogs, recovering from surgery. Yep! My exchange surgery is right around the corner. Wednesday March 19th is the big day. Less than a week now!

I had a pre-operative phone appointment last week. I talked to one of Dr. Gummy's nurses about my shifting foob concerns. She talked to Dr. G and apparently he was already planning to fix it. Yippee! I was sooooo worried that I didn't adequately communicate my concerns to him at my last appointment, but apparently he got it anyway. What a relief! I talked to the nurse for quite while – as well as his assistant – so I felt really good when I got off the phone. I feel like we're all on the same page now.

I had coffee with a friend yesterday and she asked if I was excited about my surgery. I'm anxious to get on with it but I don't know that I'd say I'm excited. Going to Disneyland is exciting. Getting a new car is exciting. Surgery? Not so much. Yes, I'm glad to be doing this next step but there are still a lot of unknowns. Is he really going to be able to fix it? What will they feel like? (These expanders are quite hard.) How will they look? Will I be happy with the result???

Not to mention that I'm not even sure what implants I'm going to end up with. The gummies that I originally wanted are anatomically shaped for a more natural look. They are smaller at the top and larger at the bottom – a teardrop shape, if you will. The problem now, though, is that my expander implants move around enough (not just Righty, but Lefty too) that I'm concerned that the shaped implants might not work for me. You see, the shaped implants have to stay upright for them to look like they should. If the implant moves around a lot you run the risk of it rotating, which would make your foobs look really weird. And if they rotate the only way to put them back in place is more surgery. That would not be good! So he's going to have both round and shaped implants in the operating room and he'll decide – while I'm out cold on the table – which kind of implant is going to work best for me. He just won't know which one will fit me best until he's got me open (ew, that sounds creepy) with the implants in hand.

So I think I'd have to say apprehensive is a better word to describe how I'm feeling. I'm not freaking out or anything, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit nervous. I just need to trust that Dr. Gummy – like most good plastic surgeons – is as much an artist as he is a surgeon.

Wow, I had no idea it was coming up so quickly. I am sure you will be satisfied with the end result, but will say a prayer for ya just the same. Love you and hope to hear, via mom probably, that all went as planned. ~N

Hey Miss Metters, I can't belive all you've been through on this road to new foobs. I would feel nervous and apprehensive, too. I'm happy you're in good hands - Bill's, Wolfie's, Cleo's, and Dr. Gummy's. Take good care of yourself these next few days and focus on the two new fabulous foobs waiting for you! And call ANY time! xoxo-Whit

Lots of expectations and nervousness abounding! But you, my dear, like all other journeys in the past, will handle this one with grace and humor. Love and gentle hugs across the miles. ILY~j

Thinking about you and wishing you an easy surgery with perky, stationary and soft, not-quite-identical-twin-perfect foobs on the other side.
