The WASL and a Waffle

Today was the final day of the WASL, which Maya and Zion are calling The Waffle. It didn't seem to be a big deal to either of them, except that they went to bed a few minutes earlier so they got plenty of rest, and you know that didn't go over well.

Zion got to take most of the test in a small group setting. This was part of his accommodation, so that he could focus more easily. Each day I asked him how testing went, and he always gave me the same answer, "It was easy, mom."

Well, I believe that the math part probably was easy for him; math is his best subject. Still, with testing, there are a lot of other components: If the answer is 16, and the choices include 16 and 61, it's possible Zion will get the answer wrong because the one that looks correct to him is 61.

I don't know that I care about the results (which we won't receive until September, by the way), as much as I care that Zion was exposed to standardized testing and that he was obligated to participate in an activity all other third graders were doing. I feel good about that.

As for the waffle, well, I keep getting put off by the school psych who hasn't provided me with the final report from Zion's re-evaluation. I have a draft, but I need to have the final version in his file so I can officially respond to it in writing. The draft is dated January 25th and since that date she's been telling me I should get it in about a week. She's the only weak link I've discovered so far in the district. I hate to call out the dogs, but I will if I have to.
