Lake City Restaurants: LC's Kitchen

For years, LC's awkward location (near the freeway exit) prevented me from stopping in. Then one day someone sideswiped us at the intersection of Lake City Way and 80th. We were OK but the car was undrivable. After gathering evidence, filling out paperwork and talking to the police, we had worked up an appetite. The only place in sight was LC's so we walked over and were immediately greeted by the server who was so eager to please us. After such a harrowing experience, it was nice to sit down and be dotted upon.

On the inside, LC's feels like a cozy little bistro. The walls are painted in a warm ocher color and decorated with colorful local art. Your meals are always accompanied by an interesting blend of music, ranging from cool jazz to hokey show tunes. If you want more privacy, you can sit at the bar overlooking an open kitchen area. LC's small space can fill up rapidly when large parties arrive, however, I've only seen this happen once since we started eating there.

Though LC's serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, I've only sampled the breakfasts. My favorite dish is the sun-dried tomato scramble with fine herbs, accompanied by roasted potatoes, toasted French bread and fresh fruit. No espresso served here, but they do offer decent house coffee (Cafe Vitta), tea and mimosas. If you're into "Claim Jumper" portions, then this place isn't for you. Personally, I'd rather not start my day feeling like I ate an elephant. My only gripe is that the food is sometimes over seasoned so I suggest asking them to hold the salt.

Lunch/ dinner entrees include Island Jerk Chicken, Portuguese Clams Cata Plana (I have no idea what this is) and the market fresh seafood stew - all for only $12.95! A chalk menu on the wall advertises daily specials and a decent wine selection.

Sandwiches range from market fresh fish to blackened pork loin- prices range from $7.95 to $8.95. Homemade soup and salads are served separately.

Our accident was an unfortunate experience but LC's Kitchen wasn't. We've been coming here ever since that unlucky day. It's nice to have found an alternative to the usual ethnic fare and fast-food found along Auto Row.
