Savor Seattle food tour

There is a new tour in Seattle.

Angela Shen leading tour in the market

My Seattle Convention Bureau friend Marj Snyder passed the information along to me and I was able to sign up for one of the "practice" tours of Savor Seattle food tours.

I signed up for two and took my nephew Colin's girlfriend, Ally, visiting from Texas.

Perfect; a newby to Seattle, and me, someone who used to check out every new restaurant in Seattle when I lived on that side of the water. A good balance of opinion and we both enjoyed the tour!

We met at the Pike Place Market at 9:45 as instructed and shortly thereafter Angela Shen, the tour guide and owner showed up. Eventually a total of 11 people arrived for the tour.

The tours are amazingly well orgainized. When you arrive you recieve a "goodie" bag with the itinerary, map, menus, suggested eating spots, napkins for the generous tastings and a bottle of water. Each participant wears an ear piece so they can easily hear Angela as you walk through the noisy market.

From Savor Seattle website: "Explore Seattle's Culinary Riches! - Savor Seattle Food Tours specializes in guided walking food tours of some of Seattle's tastiest neighborhoods. Our signature tour invites you to sample the gems of Pike Place Market, a beacon in Seattle's vibrant culinary scene. All of our tours emphasize the histories of places and the people who give them life. We highlight local artisans and restaurants whose foods are revered throughout Seattle and beyond."

The tour lasts about 2 hours and in that time you get a terrific tour of the market, a variety of generous samples from various vendors and a bit of history at each stop. To top it off you get a card, good for a discount at each of the vendors visited so you can return and purchase the items sampled or other items at each stop.

This is a great tour for locals, any tourist or a group of friends. Angela promises that she is going to eventually expand to other areas of the city, but the Pike Place Market tour is a fun place to start.

Check out Savor Seattle food tours and make sure to plan enough time to enjoy lunch in the market and some shopping with your discount card.

I've taken this tour as well! Angela does a great job! She is informative, with lots of little tips and interesting trivia. And the tastings are wonderful. I would definitely take this tour with out of town friends again. Thanks Angela!

I was pleasantly surprised to find that as a local, there were many new things to learn about Pike Place Market from the Savor Seattle Tour. I was enthralled through 2 easy hours of information, not only about the market, but about the products we sampled at each of the shops. Our tour guide, Angela Shen, had an amazing grasp of the history of each of the merchants as well as a depth of product knowledge that, in some cases, bested the merchants. I learned about honey, spices, piroshky, the history of Chukkar Cherries and the mural in homage to Japanese produce farmers, among other things. The audio headphones Angela provides are genius. Instead of chasing after the tour guide to hear what she's saying at every stop, you can leisurely follow the group and be assured you'll hear every comment she makes. Savor Seattle Tours are a must for locals and for out-of-town guests.

I though t I would drop a line as I too took the Savor Seattle food tour in June. What fun!

I have been in Seattle for 17 years, and thought I knew the Market. I learned much, ate great food, enjoyed the local wine tastings, and Loved the wireless headphones!

I even had a moment to re-fill my meter and catch up with the group - with the headphones, I never missed a word!

I would recommend this tour for any visitor new to Seattle, or for a fun party (like a girls day out or a wedding party fun event!) Angela was awesome! Great personality! - Tiffany M., Shoreline Bank
