If Not "Made in China," then Where? Part 1

I read on Seattle Mom Blogs today about that book A Year Without "Made in China". The book's by Sara Bonjiorni, and I heard about it first on NPR. As my astute readers will already have surmised, it's about living a year without buying products made in China.*

Seeing as how the dreadfully charming Mr. Right has spent his career getting products, er, made in China, the topic is one that makes my tree-hugging, human-rights-demanding, forward-looking liberal head swirl with concerns, contradictions, and questions.

So, the post I read this morning is about how local mom-blogger at Who Made This Mess? has "hopped on the 'Without Made in China' bandwagon" (her words) and has even started a new blog with resources for shopping China-free. Cool. But after reading her post Lessons in Made in China, Part 1, I felt like I had more questions than answers. (Makes sense as her post was just Part 1--and the topic is as ginormous as China itself.)

Anyway, I bent over my laptop like Schroeder on his Peanuts piano and tapped out a long-winded yet thought-provoking and ever-so-tactful comment (complete with links et al), but when I hit Submit, nothing showed up. Back. Nothing. Refresh. Nothing.

ARRRRGGGGHHHH!

So, since I'd already spent WAY too much time crafting a measly COMMENT fergoodnessake (admit it, you've done this before, too, perhaps on this very blog), I decided I'd stumble back over here and expand it into a POST. That you can read tomorrow. After I've glued back all the hairs I've pulled out.

In the meantime, go on over and give that Lessons in Made in China post a gander. And then we can talk...

Happily even after,
janna
*Editorial note: That sentence was supposed to imply that ALL my readers are astute, not that I have a group of numbskull ones. Oh, those pesky words and their wily ways...
