TGIF – Pump 'em up

PictureCars get a lot of bad press – and, indeed, in the Puget Sound region they produce the largest amount of greenhouse gases. But if you aren't ready to completely give up your wheels, can you at least make your car more efficient?

This weekend, one thing you can do is inflate your tires. Over time, your tires lose pressure, which makes them run less efficiently. From the Sierra Club:

Underinflated tires wear faster and require more energy to turn. According to the Department of Energy, proper tire inflation can increase fuel mileage by 3 percent or more. That's roughly 4 million gallons of gas each day!

If you're buying gas this weekend, or have a few minutes to stop by a service station, check your tire inflation. The correct pressure is printed in your car's users manual or sometimes it's printed inside the car's door.

As gas gets ever-more-expensive, this is a cheap, quick and easy way to save money and the planet.

Have a great green weekend!
~ K.C.
