You may have noticed that here, at Building Seattle Green, we try to steer clear of selling you on stuff, even if it is green stuff. Eco-conscious shopping is definitely one 'very popular' way to support the environment, as evidenced in Inhabitat and the plethora of other green websites, but even 'green consumerism' is detrimental when it's all about buying more stuff.
So, on that note, I'd like to share with you The Story of Stuff by Annie Leonard (a native Seattleite). "The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. It exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever."
Find out more about Annie Leonard or check out the Story of Stuff blog!

If you are interested in a more visually stunning depiction of industry and globalization, a great film to watch is Manufactured Landscapes by Jennifer Baichwal. It is a striking new documentary on the work of renowned photographer Edward Burtynsky, who travels the world observing changes in landscapes due to industrial work and manufacturing. Al Gore calls this "An Extraordinary, Haunting, Beautiful, Insightful, Touching and Thought-Provoking Movie!"

Wow! I used to work for that company. Before I left, I noticed they were shifting towards manufacturing more 'green' products.
