ABOUT STEWART M. POWELL
Stewart M. Powell, White House correspondent for Hearst Newspapers, has covered presidential politics and the parties' political conventions since 1976 during a 35-year journalistic career based in the United States and overseas. Powell has reported daily on the presidencies of George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush since 1992, following an assignment as Hearst's national security correspondent that culminated with award-winning coverage of friendly fire casualties during the Persian Gulf War. Powell joined Hearst Newspapers after serving as London bureau chief with U.S. News & World Report, where he reported from Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
