Canvasing the Seattle social, fashion and music scenes for noteworthy musings and occasions.
A while back I said it was Gala season.
Scratch that, it's Fashion Show Season!
The best part about these events is the "see and be seen" element. The worst part is if you have nothing to see and be seen in. Once can only shop so much.
Did I just say that?
What I meant to say was, one can only shop as much as her budget allows, and right now mine doesn't which means I have to get crafty with my closet. It's a good thing I'm creative, because I have nothing to wear to the first annual Product Runway Fashion Show on Friday night at the South Lake Union Naval Reserve.
Product Runway is being billed as "part runway fashion show, part theatrical production and part indulgence for guests."
Ok, that sounds promising.
They're also saying that Product Runway is "the showcase for innovative and creative design, AND the fashion event of the year."
Ok, now that's a lofty statement - I'll be the judge of that.
Judges include Jack Mackenroth from Project Runway, Matt Lorenz from Top Design and a few others. Seattle's favorite drag queen, Glamazonia will emcee the event. Really? And the event sounded so couture - until that moment.
I mentioned previously that I'll be on-air today with Roger at 1150 KKNW AM at 2pm. What I didn't mention was anything about what I've been up to over the past few weeks and how I spent the weekend in the ER with my mother (god bless her). I guess I have ALOT of catching up to do...
Yes, I did attend the-very-worth-it-for-a-Tuesday-night Sasha & Digweed show at Showbox Sodo last week and Yes, I did DJ at the DList 1 Year Anniversary Party at the Freemont Studios. Yes, I did attend Cirque Du Soleil's Corteo in the middle of what I'll refer to as a "cow-pasture" but is commonly referred to as Marymoor Park with the loudest and most inappropriate clapper/laugher known to (wo)man sitting behind me, and yes, I was somehow able to drag myself to see who-do-you-think-you-are-(God?)-$20-at-the-door-on-a-Sunday-night Mark Farina at Rebar after a long and scary weekend of panic at the (disco) ER.
It was evident, I needed to take my mind off of the disturbing sights and sounds of the ER that still invaded my memory...it was momentary, but I'll take it.
On the decks at Dlist.
Not that we know exactly what causes cancer, but theres probably someone somewhere who will tell you that tying your shoes attributes to it. Either way, I'm guessing that a hard night of drinking probably doesn't help one's case for preventing cancer, but never mind that...Here's your chance to kill brain cells for a good cause.
Where: Doc Maynards – 610 1st Ave
When: Friday, May 9th at 8pm
What: LIve music, drink specials and proceeds to support Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
Cost: $15 at the door includes 1 drink
My galpal and prowess of PR, Lauren Foster over at PR Matters called me up to discuss end of week fashion show happenings and an invitation to be a guest on one of her clients, Roger - the brainchild of 7 Salons - Radio Show tomorrow afternoon to discuss the goings on of the Seattle Scene. How could I turn that down? Sorry pilates, guess you'll have to wait...
Check us out tomorrow at 2pm on 1150 AM KKNW.
May 1st - Style 08 - Annual spring fashion show and benefit.
May 2nd - Product Runway - 7pm - Architecture and design students exhibit creative couture.
May 14th - Sip for a Cure - 6:30p - Wine, beer and BBQ tasting festival for a cause.
May 20th - Guilty Pleasures - 6pm - Grab your girlfriends for the naughtiest FUN-raiser of the year.
May 30th - Sex and the City "the Movie" opening - with special screenings at The Big Picture.
Look, I'm only calling it a "party" because I don't know what else to call it, but let's be honest, this is going to be more than a party. In fact, it stands to be one of the most posh, and down-right cool events of, dare I say, 2008.
I'm just saying....I don't want to hear about it later if you miss this one. Seriously
DList Anniversary Party

If you're like me, you've been overloaded with "Green this, Green That". And quite frankly, you're super annoyed. Especially after accidentally stopping by the IKEA Envronmental Fair last week when you were just trying to shop for the latest Spring must-haves. Can't a girl/guy shop without having to feel guilty anymore?
Dammit, you "get it" but you're tired of hearing about all this of green mumbo-jumbo. You already take the bus, turn your lights off when you're not using them, get your bank statements on-line, no longer brush your teeth with the water running, and you shop at PCC/Traders/Whole Foods when you can afford it.
Geez! What more can you do!? (Don't answer that.) Besides, you thought that partaking in some "greenery" on 4/20 was enough...
Feel less guilty about Earth Day at the Zoo:

Other Eco-Friendly Events coming up:
Dine in the Sky. Columbia Tower Club goes green with style over candle light, organic food and a sense of civic pride. Choose raw or vegan food options. April 22, April 29, May 6 and May 13, $43 pp, reservations required.
Sustainable Trunk Show. View Emily Baker of Clever Castle's latest collection featuring re-claimed pieces of porcelain figurines at Last Waltz Boutique. Enjoy live music, organic treats and cocktails. Portion of proceeds benefit Baahaus. April 26th, 7pm-10pm, Free.
Eat Local Now. Join BALLE Seattle and Sustainable Ballard at the Ballard High School to feast on locally grown foods prepared by Seattle chefs. Tickets to this tasty fund-raiser, promoting awareness for issues such as farmland flooding and food security, have a history of selling out. April 29th, 6pm-9pm.
In an earlier post, 7 Nights of 1/2 Decent Dance Music, I briefly mentioned the arrival of Sasha & Digweed, performing Tuesday at Showbox SODO, and I wanted to remind you again of such happenings, as this is as monumental as it gets in the "electronic music scene."
Sasha & Digweed are back again after a very long Seattle Hiatus for The Spring Club Tour with special guest Kazell. Just think, Sasha & Digweed might be the last of the truly great electronic musicians. Take this opportunity to see for yourself.

Wouldn't be right if I didn't follow the "Eco-Chic Gone Mad" post with a post that didn't include the word "Eco-Chic" in the title....
That's right, The Girls are back in action for a special installment of Girl Power Hour.
It's Eco. It's Chic. It's Eco-Chic.
Enough already!

You love the word "Eco-chic". It's your new favorite word. You conveniently find ways to interject it into most of your sentences. It just seems so appropriate. You've noticed that the word is everywhere, so you don't feel weird or even slightly awkward when strangers roll their eyes at you, because you know that this word is popular and very accepted, which means you are certain they must just have something in their eye. Or maybe their winking in appreciation of your trendy sustainable vocab? Doesn't matter, you're in denial and you like it that way.
You're stoked about Earth Day this year.
You've designated it as "Eco-Chic Earth Day," by which you'll be aiming to set a personal record for how many times you can say the word back to back without puking, choking or getting slapped by friends, family or passersby.
It should be fun.
You're looking forward to it.
To commemorate this mammoth feat, you've decided to celebrate Earth Day, the word "eco-chic", and how awesome you are in general by drinking copious amounts of biodynamic wine and consuming grass-fed burgers and free-range chicken while lounging in your new eco-friendly fashions purchased recently from local boutiques that carry sustainable threads. You're conscious, you're aware and you want to take your new found green obsession to the next level.
Bravo!
That said, you've decided to throw a sustainable house party. You've installed a Swedish Separett Composting Toilet beforehand so you can save everyone's poop for good measure and composting purposes. You demand that all of your socially conscious upwardly mobile peeps (scuppies) exclaim that your poop-saving practices are considered "eco-chic." You serve dirt, rainwater and bird eggs as appetizers. You're guests are shocked and appalled. You're friends tie you down and try to smack some non-green-sense into you.
And that's when it hits you.....you've gone mad, and there's nothing eco-chic about that.
