No fines, just pain

Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and coach Mike Holmgren said this week that they did not think the sandwich job in Sunday's game against the Giants that left Hasselbeck with a hyperextended right knee was a cheap shot.

The NFL office agreed. There were no fines issued today for that play – where Fred Robbins hit Hasselbeck high and Justin Tuck got him low – or either of the facemask penalties called against the Giants.

The league is likely thrilled the Seahawks are having a terrible start to their season. The bobbleheads at Fox more so than anyone (as the better crews won't have to be sent to the end of nowhere to announce games with Putin's planes flying overhead.)

I haven't heard anyone else metion this about that hit but I thought for sure after watching it many times that it was a late hit. It seemed to me that there was at least a good second after Hasselbeck threw the ball to the time he was sandwiched. It was not as if the players couldn't stop themselves that would of been understandable they just kept going after him clearly after the ball had been thrown.

I agree, seemed closer to 2 seconds which I think is enough time to avoid hitting the qb low.

Not only was the hit unquestionably late, but it was also low. The new "Carson Palmer" rule forbids hitting a QB at or below the knees, and Tuck was clearly in violation of the rule.

I've seen defenders flagged for far less. I don't know about malicious intent or anything like that. But Tuck got away with one there. Seattle was getting destroyed anyway, but that hit is still impacting Matt going into the Packer game.

The Times report that Hasselback might not play and that Frye will start Clare have you heard anything about that, they need him to play on order to win this game.
