It's official: Jones signed

The Seahawks just announced that running back Julius Jones has signed the contract he agreed to Friday. Here's the release:

KIRKLAND, WASH. – The Seattle Seahawks have signed RB Julius Jones to a multi-year contract, the team announced Monday.

An original second-round draft choice by Dallas in 2004, Jones played his first four seasons for the Cowboys. Last season, he started all 16 games, rushing for 588 yards on 168 carries with two touchdowns. His best season came in 2006 when he rushed for a career-high 1,084 yards on 267 carries.

After missing 11 games his first two NFL seasons, Jones has started 32 straight games the last two seasons and has started 51 of his 53 career games. For his career, he has 885 rushing attempts for 3,484 yards (3.9 avg.) and 18 touchdowns.

Two of his finest performances came at Qwest Field. In 2004, Jones rushed for career-highs with 198 rushing yards and three touchdowns on Monday Night Football against the Seahawks. Two years later he set playoff career-highs with 116 rushing yards on 22 carries.

Jones, 26, attended the University of Notre Dame, where he was one of just four running backs in school history to rush for over 3,000 career yards. He played in 45 games, rushing for 3,018 yards and 26 rushing touchdowns.

A native of Virginia, his older brother Thomas, plays for the New York Jets.

Jones' Career Highs
Rushing Yards: 1,084 (2006)
Rushing Attempts: 267 (2006)
Rushing Touchdowns: 7 (2004)
Receptions: 35 (2005)
Receiving yards: 218 (2005)

So Clare, what do you think? Does this + Duckett mean bye bye Shaun?

Iknow a lot of folks think he's a better receiver than SA but his best year in receptions is only 35? SA had 17 last year with a cast on and in Shaun's second year he had 44 catches, 3rd year 59 and 4th year 42. Not until we went run first in 05 did SA's reception numbers drop below 20 for the season. Is that him or was that the scheme?

A lot of WRs have never had 59 receptions in one year. I've got to scratch my head on that one.

I'm not really convinced that JJ is much of an improvement from SA. His career average is below 4 yards a carry and he was already a goner from Dallas. I believe we over-paid and already had a better back in MoMo. Maybe we'll get lucky in the draft and get a good, young back then.

Yes, SA, is gone. JJ may not be a better back but SA is still going to leave.

I hope we don't have to see a running back grinning happily right after a loss anymore.

Signing Julius Jones is just part of a marketing ploy to boost the sales of Jones Soda.

Yeah I dont know about this signing either. I rather have momo start the season for the first time and see how that goes... The reason is because when sa was injured.. Momo broke off huge runs nearly every game... and thats after we decided to be a pass happy team.. So imagine what would of happened if we had a normal game plan with half rushing and half passing.. momo would of broke a hundred every game.. I think our weak point of the entire season was third and short which signing duckett is a huge boost. Then we draft a running back in the possibly the third or fourth to none at all.. 1st round should be used on Albert (G) from virginia which will definetly strenghten our line NOte best guard in this years draft.. 2nd round should be for the best TE available.. dustin keller or fred davis.. stocks are dropping and even if they are not there.. there is that TE from notre dame and the guy from Texas.. i also read and found out that there is a TE that is 6-7 and ran the 40 in like 4.5 or 4.6. Lots of options.. With all the running backs selected this year... no one is going to need one next year which will open up for us to draft our future back... Who knows? Maybe next years draft would be running back worthy like this year. But i say release sa post june 1 and use that extra money to resign trufant... Lets experiment with the backs we got now! MOMO deserves a chance

I guess I'm one of the few who like this move. I have all the faith in our front office they must see something we don't like maybe shaun isn't fully recovered? or maybe he never will be, its hard to tell why. Dallas has never had a O line as good as ours except maybe last years with that said I'am wondering about the possibility of movin up to get Mendenhall or Stewart (who knows maybe a package deal involving #37?).
I love what our Hawks are doing and believe this team to be stronger then the 05 team if we get a TE that can get open! GO HAWKS
