Hm, I think his brother may have played for the U of Oregon a few years back, his name if very familiar.

Not much of a signing, he is strictly back-up material. If he challenges for the starting job, Hawks are in trouble (again).

It looks to me like today's news (Duckett and Putz) is just a confirmation that the Hawks are not looking to fill their major holes with free agency. Hopefully they are confident in the talent in the draft.

The ship is sinking? What are you talking about dude? I don't know why anyone would be freaking out about this move. Think about it - we had ZERO depth at tight end this year. Marcus Pollard is thankfully gone and Will Heller is a second string TE at best. This guy might not be much of a blocker, but at minimum he can come in and up the competition. If nothing else, he can be a viable receiver in dual TE sets or short yardage situations. It's clear that the Hawks are going after a tight end in the draft this year (hopefully an RB as well), so let's not panic. We're all aware of the salary cap situation.

Comment: Putzier is a five-year veteran that was drafted in the sixth round by the Denver Broncos in 2002 out of Boise State. After four years with the Broncos he signed with the Texans in 2006. He is a decent sized TE with athleticism and above-average downfield speed. He is a good combination of decent blocker, decent route runner and receiver. He has a good understanding of Gary Kubiaks offense as he followed Coach K to Houston from Denver. He can read coverages and does a good job of finding the soft spots in zone coverage to provide a good target for the QB. He has natural, relaxed hands that can pluck the ball away from his body and he puts it away quickly. He is not real elusive after the catch but will fight for yards after first contact. As a blocker he shows effort and body control. He is just not massive or strong enough to be a real effective blocker. He knows his role and does a good job of being ready when called upon.

Can you say 2nd string TE?

I'm not impressed. I still say bring in Jason Dunn for a shot. Also, there are some good tight ends available in the draft, the kid from Purdue and Jacob Tammey from Kentucky to name two.

Where have you been flanagan? Two weeks ago we signed a near pro bowl level LG in Mike Wahle. Do you not consider that addressing our offensive line needs?

Kent i dont think will work hes to small hes what 200lbs put lets see how our WR with Branch hurt, and Hackett gone unless we sign
i think our line will be ok Willis should come up, and Wrotto and Gray backup guards, so maybe a center to help Spencer

This years draft is pretty deep at RB and TE...Let's see what we can draft before getting all bent out of shape about this years free agency moves.

Jeb is a wide receiver in a tight end's body. He has great hands and speed for a tight end. His blocking is average, or at least was when he played at BSU. He'll be a great weapon on passing downs. I was hoping we'd pick him up if the Crumpler thing didn't work out. Besides, who's to say Crumpler isn't on his last legs in this league....he's taken a severe beating for quite awhile now.

I am starting to think that we should pick up a RB next year if things dont work in 08.
1. TE
2. DE Tapp and Kerney but then what?
3. O line by getting a T we have depth with Willis, Gray, Wrotto backing up
4. think we should get a CB unless we sign Trufant to a deal
5. LB in case of injuries hope not
6. maybe a DT if Tubbs is hurt but Mebane came up thats good

Alright everyone take a breath and relax. Ruskell has done a good job so far and until the quality of play reflects bad decisions I am willing to give him the benefit. As for the draft I would take one of the top 3 RB's available if one falls if not get the best tackle or DT available. In the second round I would take the top TE available between Davis Bennett Carlson Keller or Cottam. In the third round go after Kevin Smith and you will have your RB of the future. I feel Smith has all the tools to fit into our offense. Then get yourself O-line or D-line help whichever you didn't get earlier.

Here's the deal, Seattle still has a great base of players and a strong D that needs some interior line help. Other then that the D is set. On the O-line we could draft Walts future replacement or Grays but the depth with the Wahle signing is good with Sims Willis and Wrotto. The only other thing we may need is WR help if we don't get Hackett back. The way free agency has gone for DJ though he may be better to sign a one year deal with us and hope he stays healthy and cash in next year, if not we have Nate and Bobby with the kids we've drafted the past few years. I like Obomanu and Taylor and Kent is a speed guy not a future TE.

All I know is I am a Hawks fan no matter what and will die a hawks fan.

i think Husky your right, dont know exactly the players lol but as far as what positions needed i agree, but dont think we need a WR maybe not even a DT depending on Tubbs
and one thing do we still have Womack?
