If you can't get away this summer check out a fun vacation flick like the 1962 comedy "Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation" starring Jimmy Stewart, Maureen O'Hara and Fabian. It features beaches, bikinis and bird watchers and a dysfunctional family vacation that will make you glad you stayed home for the summer. For trivia fans: Stewart's youngest daughter in the movie was the original "Leisl" from the Broadway production of the "The Sound of Music." The yacht club trumpeter is Herb Alpert of the Tijuana Brass. The large painting in the beach house is a portrait of Rex Harrison from the movie "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir."
Film Hound has returned a day late and a dollar short. Hope everyone had a great 4th of July. Singed eyelashes and throbbing eardrums are a small price to pay for fireworks fun. Feeling like a Manatee from too much holiday cuisine is another matter. So Film Hound will skip the cat nap and play fetch instead or watch a slimming flick like "Rocky" which not only provides inspirational work-out music but also features a really cute Bulldog. Happy 5th!
Film Hound is currently lost somewhere inside the Magic Kingdom after chasing Chip 'N' Dale through the Electric Parade and then vanishing into the Haunted Mansion. Goofy and Pluto are on the case, in other words, Film Hound might be lost for quite a while. In the meantime, does anyone remember a movie called "40 Pounds of Trouble?" The 1962 comedy starring Tony Curtis and Suzanne Pleshette was a remake of the Shirley Temple classic "Little Miss Marker." Instead of a fairy tale race horse, this time the little girl is obsessed with Disneyland. Casino owner Curtis makes her dreams come true with a rollicking trip through the amusement park, the first time Disneyland was ever shown in a movie. It's a fun family flick.
Your Rover Reporter is heading for Orlando where the humidity is currently only slightly less moist than SpongeBob Squarepants. Speaking of good ol' SpongeBob, "The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie" is the perfect summer flick with undersea creatures off on a laugh filled adventure amidst sand and surf. Don't miss out on the fun, or you can catch SpongeBob and his pals, Patrick Star, Squidward, Sandy and Mr.Krabs on Nickleodeon everyday. Don't forget the Krabby patties!
Film Hound is on vacation but will attempt to work as your roving reporter, or in this case, ROVER REPORTER and post news from far-flung locales. I'm currently in Sarasota, Florida where a frog greeted me in the shower this morning. I thought it was a decorative sculpture until it walked away. I love frogs but not particularly in the bathtub. After a daring tupperware relocation adventure, all is well. But I was reminded of the 1972 schlock horror flick "FROGS" starring Ray Milland. Check it out - it's more fun than a tub full of amphibians!
For those who remember his high-pitched signature greeting "Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa," it might be best to skip the second cup of coffee before viewing.
Although "Reggie" (pictured here) didn't win the title of World's Ugliest Dog, he perked up his ears when he heard another Chinese Crested took home the prize.
The 20th annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest held in Petaluna, CA just crowned a three-legged, one-eyed Chinese Crested named "Gus." The Chinese Crested breed seems to do pretty well in this competition with winners "Elwood" a CC&Chihuahua mix in 2007, "Archie" in 2006 and "Sam," champ from 2003 -2005.

Fans of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" know actor James Marsters as "Spike" the poet turned vampire turned hero - how did he get to be a Film Hound favorite? He not only saved the world, he once saved a basketful of kittens from a demon poker game. He's a hunk with a heart of gold!
