I am a dad, as incompetent as many of you, but with one advantage. As the family reporter at the Seattle P-I, I am flooded with information -- the good, the bad and the absolutely useless -- every day. It is my job to wade through piles of studies, pre-released books, websites, classes, research "breakthroughs" and toys to find what's useful and what's not.

The newspaper, though, is only so big. So, on Working Dad, I will post useful news articles, helpful parenting guides, new findings, online resources and lessons that I learn as a reporter and as a parent of a 1-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son. I will also point out where you may not want to waste your time.

I am a dad, not a mom, and that means this blog will have a male perspective, with the help of several regular contributors.

For the past 18 years I worked as a journalist far removed from family life and parenting stories. I covered everything from Congress and the Federal Reserve to organized labor and economics. Three years ago my son arrived, and three months ago I managed to merge my professional and personal lives as the new family reporter at the P-I. I can think of few better beats for this time in my life.
