There seems to be a lot of data to back this. There was also a study done, published in "Lancet" in 1992 where the cuddling effect was discounted because they studied only premies that were tube fed. There seems to be some agreement that it is only between 5 and 10 points of IQ, but hey, I figure my kid needs all the advantage I can give. Not to mention, didn't have to buy formula, didn't have to sterilize many bottles. Fed my child for 2 1/2 years, returned to work when he was 5 weeks. Nursed him exclusively at night and pumped twice a day to provide milk to daycare.

Here are some other articles:

Or it could just be that breast-feeding moms are interacting more with their kids? Which in turn is stimulating their brains, hence making them smarter. If they're taking the time to breast feed, they're probably doing other things to care for their babies in an optimal way.

I'm not saying that non-breast fed kids don't have attentive parents. Heck, I'm one of the most attentive parents you'll ever meet and I definitely don't lactate!

But if both parents have to work, who's doing the feeding? A bottle, even if it's breast milk, it's coming from a bottle.

Here's a study I'd like to see done: "Are dumb-ass parents more likely to raise dumb-ass kids?" And if the study is done by a dumb-ass, then how accurate is it anyway?

Peace,

babbo

I'm still waiting for the study "Breast-feeding Cures Both the Common Cold -- and Cancer!" to come out.
