I like my T-shirts with a little style and a random bit of meaning, hence my long-running search for the perfect "Hong Kong Phooey" T-shirt. But there is a new T-shirt with a bigger cause that caught my eye last week, FiveHumans' autism awareness tee.
Initially, the effort was called Disease Tees, but the founders wisely changed the name to FiveHumans.
"Five Humans is a company with the self-appointed task of curing ignorance through hip, fashionable clothing."
Now, carrying a message isn't cheap, and a kid's autism T-shirt runs $22.50, while a dude's version is roughly $30.
But, ignorance is more expensive. Plus, it is autism awareness month.
Autism ignorance isn't the only thing the five humans, who have daytime jobs, are trying to cure. The Seattle-based shop has a line of tees on cancer, heart disease, diabetes and asthma, though the autism version is the most stylish in my view.
They are also looking to expand. If you have ignorance that needs curing, drop them an e-mail at mystory@fivehumans.com.

Thanks for this article it is great! I just ordered 3 shirts, two for me and one for the little boy I work with who has autism. The one thing I think is very important to mention is that 10% of the sale price goes to the charity, Autism Speaks which is mentioned on their web site.. Thanks again, Mrs. Stone
