UPDATE
Stop the presses. Sen. Maria Cantwell is stepping up to share credit for the potential $90 million in salmon money.
To quote a Cantwell press release hot from my inbox:
"I thank Senator Murray for her support and leadership in helping secure this funding, and I will continue working to support efforts to protect our state's wild, endangered salmon population."
EARLIER POST:

That potential bounty could pay "to support state, local, and tribal efforts to restore endangered and listed stocks of Pacific salmon through the improvement and expansion of salmon habitats. It also supplements existing state, local, and tribal programs that foster partnerships in salmon and steelhead recovery and conservation."
This is a significant bump in funding for vanishing runs of salmon -- whose bleak numbers were so bleak this year it triggered strict fishing restrictions on the coast. Murray, who is a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, reports that she has "secured more than $140 million for salmon recovery efforts for Washington state alone over the past 5 years."
Not to be outdone, Sen. Maria Cantwell announced that her push to get $2 million for a coastal radar weather system has made it through a Senate subcommittee.
Here's how she's making her case for better Doppler and other weather-tracking devices:
Considering that the Washington coast experiences some of the strongest storms in the nation, with frequent hurricane force winds, often accompanied by flooding and landslides, the safety and economic needs of the region require adequate weather radar coverage.
The timing on this could be just right. The Washington Post on Friday is reporting on a study out from the U.S. Climate Change Science Program concluding that global warming is making extreme weather more common.
Reported in the Post:
"...North America is likely to experience more droughts and excessive heat in some regions even as intense downpours and hurricanes pound others more often..."

For all those who post to the PI boards, please note above "The Washington Post on Friday is reporting on a study out from the U.S. Climate Change Science Program concluding that global warming is making extreme weather more common." (emphasis mine)
The quote listed explains why that poor fellow on TV was complaining about all the 500 year floods he has been experiencing in the Mid West , "...North America is likely to experience more droughts and excessive heat in some regions even as intense downpours and hurricanes pound others more often..." It also explains why we have been having so many different weather patterns.
Global warming means that the whole earth is warmer, but extream weather means that any one area may be warmer or colder than what had been normal.
Even if you have been told that all this is wrong, what if the sources you have been quoting are wrong and this is really happening? Are you going to enjoy watching the things that can happen to your kids and grandkids? Error on the side of caution and do what you can to help the world.
