« Life Comes to Life on the Eastside, Spring is in the Air! | Main | Eastside Wine Buzz & A List Buzz Worthy Events! »
We have arrived! The Seattle PI ran an article about Bellevue "staying up late" which talked about our new nightlife, stores, restaurants, lounges, bowling alleys, arts spots, wine bars, etc.
So... is Bellevue the new Seattle? If so, why is there such a divide between Seattle and the Eastside? It's like the Eastside~ Westside Story. Why does it sometimes seem like the Seattle folks don't like the Bellevue ones and vice versa?
Personally speaking,I feel there are alot of very cool places to go in Seattle..I just highly dislike the process of getting there. Unless it's a lazy Sunday afternoon, one sits in gridlock enhaling exhaust fumes getting across one of the bridges. Take your pick, they are both hosed at rush hour.
For me, it sort of ruins the fun of attending an event "over there". It's not that I dislike the people or places in Seattle..it's just that.....
take for example Valentines night. Mel and I had tickets for an event that started at 8 PM. We headed across I-90 at 6 PM headed for a casual bite to eat on the way. By 6:45 PM we were half way across the bridge. We, at that point, had very little time to park, eat, and get to our 8 PM destination in Downtown Seattle. You end up picking ..starve to death...or enjoy the show you bought tickets for...hard choice. Who wants to make that choice after a long day?
It's almost like you have to plan a 4 hour window of time to attend an event in Seattle on a weeknight.
At this juncture, if any of you have a shortcut, please do leave a comment!
But, I must admit, I am very happy that Bellevue has come to life. We now have: nightlife: some of the same as Seattle. We have alot of the same restaurants; such as Daniel's, and in the future; Wild Ginger, and El Gaucho. We are going to have a performing arts center, and we definitely have art galleries.
The only thing missing is the old world character. And, the nasty trek across the bridge.
In Bellevue, we seem to embrace the NEW. I embrace the old along with the new, but sometimes it comes down to having it all in your own backyard without the hassle.
In Bellevue, we are no longer rolling up the streets after 5 PM.
So, is Bellevue the new Seattle?

Park at the south Bellevue Park and Ride and leave the driving to Metro! You have the chance to relax.......listen to the ipod, tap on the laptop, play with the pda, or just watch the bus denizens. Once you are in Seattle.....no parking hassles! I know I know....you have to stand out in the cold and rain and watch out for the characters but this gives you the chance to cuddle with your loved on (BF Mel) to stay warm. And in Summer....work on your tan.
Best,

PS....wait for light rail in about the year 2020!
