David Horsey
David Horsey has won two Pulitzer Prizes (in 2003 and 1999) for his editorial cartoons, along with numerous other accolades and awards. His work is syndicated to more than 250 newspapers across America. Columns magazine has named him one of the 100 most notable graduates of the University of Washington in the 20th century and Seattle University has awarded him an honorary doctorate.
Horsey began his journalism career covering the Washington State Legislature and later spent a year observing national politics at the Hearst Newspapers Washington Bureau. In between, he earned a master’s degree in international relations in Canterbury, England. Traveling on assignment to presidential primaries, political conventions, the Olympics, the Super Bowl, Japan, Mexico, Europe and beyond, he has chronicled contemporary life and politics in both words and pictures. Seven collections of his cartoons have been published, including, most recently, “From Hanging Chad to Baghdad” and “Draw Quick, Shoot Straight.”
Despite his many accomplishments, Horsey remains, most of all, an unpretentious Seattle boy who loves his city, his kids, his wife and his job. And that job is simply to make people think, laugh and stay engaged in the great debates of our times.
