This past week, Gap began bombarding my in-box with back-to-school clothing ads.
As far as I can tell, "back-to-school" at Gap will always mean preppy. It varies from year to year--classic prep, punk-prep, 1980s fluorescent prep--but no matter what the trend is, you know you're gonna see some form of plaid. Gap's thrifty sister company, Old Navy, is offering punk prep for girls, and skater clothes for boys.
Personally, I hate this reminder that our long, warm summer days are so short-lived. Heck, I've barely convinced my kids to put on those shorts that I bought them back in April--you know, during the summer clothing sales.

I was equally taken aback by the office supply stores' back to school flyers in the Sunday paper...but as my husband reminded me, some colleges will be starting in just a few weeks. In fact, that reminds me, the 18 year old had better start sorting through what is going to college with her and what isn't, or she'll be throwing "whatever" in her bags on the way to the airport.
LOL about the plaid-it was the same 18 year old's choice every fall as a little kid. Now it's all skinny jeans, "tissue" T's, and flip-flops. How things change...
