She Wore Red Velvet: Cakespy Tastes Cupcakes at Cafe Sweet Posie in Ballard

Cupcake from Sweet Posie Cafe in Ballard, Seattle

Café Sweet Posie is easy to miss. As close as it is to the bustling retail center of Ballard's Market street, it is strangely off the beaten path, roughly the size of a New York City apartment (that is to say, a shoebox) and around the corner from a tattoo parlor. But look out for the little sign pointing to them: hidden in the alley is a little gem.

The cakespy crew recently took a trip to test out their Red Velvet cupcakes, and are happy to report that they are wonderful. Not too-light, they're a perfect size, and the cake was moist, the frosting rich, cream-cheesy and delicious. They're not too large, but they pack a punch.

Unfortunately, they won't pack too far a geographical punch: while we loved the cupcakes,
we have to give demerits because of the fact that they don't offer to-go
boxes
. Seriously, you can't put cupcakes this cute in your bakery case (especially if you're primarily a to-go counter) and not have boxes to take them away in! When we made our purchase, all they had was white bags in the style that you'd get say, a Starbucks scone; that is to say, not conducive to traveling with a delicately frosted cupcake. Of course, then again maybe it's a smart move if, like us, you munch on it right in the alley, hidden from the prying eyes of Market Street.

Perhaps we doth protest too much?

Cafe Sweet Posie, 2315 N.W. Market St.; 206-784-0303.

Yum! I have never heard of this cupcake shop in Ballard. Why does Ballard attract cupcake shops? :)

Kari, I know! Happily though, Sweet Posie DOES have other stuff too!
