Brian Chin's Weblog surveys the Web to spot what people are talking about ...
September 09, 2005Legalistic about LegosOver at Boing Boing, Cory Doctorow points out a hilariously persnickety trademark warning regarding a well-known toy brand. See it for yourself at www.legos.com. Category: You can't make this stuff upPosted by Brian Chin at September 9, 2005 01:27 PM Comments
Actually, that's how most of the world refers to them - as "lego". Not "legos". I think it's just Americans who call them "legos". ie each brick is a piece of Lego, not a "lego". Cory's piece is a bit ridiculous, particularly his description of the warning, which is about as innocuous as it could be. Posted by: MrLefty at September 9, 2005 03:47 PMI don't think the issue is Lego vs. Legos, I think its appropriate use of the brand name.
They say it dilutes the brand. (so that you'll settle for a cheap knockoff and still call it TiVo. Like with Kleenex and the cheap-o store brand, which you still call kleenex) Posted by: Anonymous at September 9, 2005 05:38 PM*rolling eyes* Ah yes, the poor, downtrodden corporations need our help to protect their profits. What's next? Google suing bloggers who use their name as a verb? Commercial interests are getting way too arrogant and pushy these days. I'm supposed to change the way I've referred to these little plastic thingees since I was a kid? Makes me want to buy my kids K'Nex instead of LEGOS from now on. Post a comment
