McFashion Statement

McDonald's wants trendier, more fashionable uniforms for its employees, the Chicago Sun-Times reports:

Ramping up its bid for a hipper, more youthful image, McDonald's plans to hire top designers to remake its uniforms. The Oak Brook-based hamburger giant recently hired a marketing whiz with ties to the hip-hop community and is contemplating deals with fashion figures ranging from Sean "P. Diddy" Combs to Tommy Hilfiger.

"It would be pretty cool if our employees liked their uniforms so much that they would also want to wear them while they were not working," said McDonald's spokesman Bill Whitman.

Am I the only one who thinks that idea is, well, a little weird?

Maybe you are the only one that thinks this is a little weird, seeing that no one else has commented. There are many people who work at McDonald's for a living. Whether it is a sole or second income, it is an honest day's work. Having a more than decent uniform to wear would be nice for them.

Actually, Nina, I seldom get comments on this blog. Just the nature of Buzzworthy, I suppose.

To clarify, I have nothing against McDonald's employees getting nicer uniforms. It's the notion of creating uniforms so eye-catching that people would want to wear them outside work that strikes me as a little odd. Or perhaps it's just very, very ambitious.

Thank you for the response. I appreciate the clarification of your view. I believe that we would be in agreement by saying that it is very, very ambitious. That is a good way to sum it up. On a sidenote, I relocated from Washington to California about six months ago. I still read your blog every day. It gives me something to think about as I go about my day. Keep up the good work!

...seldom get comments

Because no one can stand the delay in the post button and the javascript trickery. It's too complex to post to Buzzworthy, yet.

We're aware of the sluggishness in posting comments -- and I apologize for that. The short version of the story is that the blogging system we installed a couple years back as an experiment is now being strained by increased demands -- not the least of which is fending off an ever-rising tide of comment spam.

We're developing a new system that we expect to perform much better.
