Why we go for Google Maps

Why is Google Maps such a hit? In theory, it's no more or less accurate than rivals MapQuest and Yahoo! Maps since it uses the same data. *

Forrester Research weighs in with a likely explanation:

So if the data is the same and you count out silly things like brand affinity, what is it that makes customers feel all warm and fuzzy about Google Maps? A user interface that treats them with a little respect.

* Although, perhaps because of its "beta" status, it can still exhibit odd behavior: when I looked up the address for Glenn Fleishman's office last week, Google displayed an unrelated organization in the International District, too.

Of course it's the user interface. It's the little things like (1) a nearly full screen map, (2) ability to zoom around with the arrow keys, and (3) easy integration with google local. AND it's the big things like the XML design allowing for placement of personal data: http://www.paulrademacher.com/housing/
