Brian Chin's Weblog surveys the Web to spot what people are talking about ...
August 27, 2004iPod as mind readerDo iPods have minds of their own? Many owners will swear to it, for better or worse, the New York Times notes. You see, although the Shuffle command is supposed to pick songs to play at random, they can't help but notice that their iPods display an uncanny knack for selecting just the right song to suit their current frame of mind -- or to really embarrass them in public. Can it just be coincidence? Stan Ng, director of iPod marketing for Apple, insists that it is. Of course, he could be lying to cover up a top-secret government contract Apple has for testing mind- and/or mood-reading software. But that's just silly, right?
