Brian Chin's Weblog surveys the Web to spot what people are talking about ...
August 26, 2004Remote bullyingCyberbullying -- yet another unintended consequence of the Internet that today's youth will grow up with. The New York Times sets the context: ... the technology lubricating the social lives of teenagers is amplifying standard adolescent cruelty. No longer confined to school grounds or daytime hours, "cyberbullies" are pursuing their quarries into their own bedrooms. Tools like e-mail messages and Web logs enable the harassment to be both less obvious to adults and more publicly humiliating, as gossip, put-downs and embarrassing pictures are circulated among a wide audience of peers with a few clicks. An unpleasant thought: Will today's teens and tweens eventually learn to accept cyberstalking as an inevitable price to pay for being online, much like how many Gen-Xers seem to shrug off spam? Hello, If visitors here would to learn more about the issue of cyberbullying, I would invite them to visit www.cyberbullying.ca, the world's first and only Web site dedicated to this emerging issue. In fact, I am often cited as the person who first coined and defined this term. I would also invite those interested in learning more about the issue of bullying to visit www.bullying.org. With over one million visitors and contributors from around the world each month, it is the number one Web site about bullying. Sincerely, Bill Belsey President, Post a comment
