As a boomer consumer, what's your latest, greatest success story?

My most recent consumer success is the purchase of a laptop.

In January, I bought an i-Mac that I'm happy with, except for the brightness of the screen. I purchased a desktop computer because I didn't want to lose my all consumer writing on a laptop if I lost it or if it was stolen.

I need a laptop so I can blog when I travel. I didn't buy the cheapest Apple laptop because I didn't want another computer with a bright screen.

I decided I'd get a PC. I read Consumer Reports, did research on the Internet, shopped around, compared prices, and asked for advice on my blog called The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide.

I bought a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ220U/B Widescreen Notebook at Office Depot.

I think I made a good choice.

What has worked well for you as a boomer consumer? Did you:

• Get a good price on a big-ticket item?
• Find a great contractor or roofer?
• Figure out a way to cut your spending on food or gas?
• Slash your credit card bills or pay off a credit card?
• Find a great consumer or green group to help you?
• Get satisfaction because you made a consumer complaint?

Let me know about your Boomer Consumer Success Story. Send me an e-mail at robisonrita@hotmail.com. Let me know how you'd like to have your name used in the blog I write about successes. Your e-mail address won't be used in the blog.

Or tell me about your success in the Comment section below.

You can also send in information about consumer stumbling blocks you've run into.

I'm still about 10 months away from age 62, when I become eligible for the retiree dues (50 percent less) for membership in a professional organization I belong to. But when I contacted them to see if my dues for the coming year could be pro-rated until my retiree dues rate kicks in, they called me and offered me the retiree rate immediately. $36 saved, a good feeling.

Hi Pivo,

Congratulations on your boomer consumer success. I'm glad your professional organization was willing to help you. Thanks for writing.

Rita
