Hassey named bench coach
The Mariners announced today that Ron Hassey will be bench coach for the 2005 season. They also confirmed Bryan Price will return as pitching coach.
"Ron is a good baseball man with a lot to offer," Mike Hargrove said. "He worked with Don Baylor in Colorado and Tony LaRussa in St. Louis, and he was a big part of the World Series teams in Oakland. Ron’s very creative and will be a good fit here in Seattle."
Here's a timeline of Hassey's career:
· 14 seasons in the Majors as a catcher for Cleveland, Chicago (NL), New York (AL), Chicago (AL), Oakland and Montreal
· 1992: advance scout for the New York Yankees
· 1993-1995: member of Colorado's coaching staff
· 1996: bench coach in St. Louis
· 1998-1999: special assistant to the GM for the Diamondbacks
· 2000: minor league catching coordinator for the D'backs
· 2001-2002: minor league field coordinator for the D'backs
· 2003: scout in D'backs organization
· 2004: manager of the Carolina Mudcats
