Top prospect Triunfel suspended by Mariners

Shortstop Carlos Triunfel, considered by some to be the best player in the Seattle minor league system, is serving an indefinite suspension and is not currently on the roster of the Mariners' High Desert team in the California League.

Mariner director of player development Greg Hunter confirmed Monday that Triunfel has been suspended for a violation of team rules and has been sent back to the Mariners' minor league complex in Peoria, Ariz. to serve out the duration of the suspension.

The Mariners aren't saying just what rules were broken, but this suspension has already lasted nine days, so it's apparently not a minor thing.

Triunfel, an 18-year-old signed out of Venezuela, hasn't played in a game since May 10 and Hunter said there was no set date for the suspension to be lifted.

Could be some trouble with his immigant papers or maybe even his birth certificant I can't believe it's steriod or HGH related then MiLB would have done the suspending.
A very generalized statement as team rules violations is exactly that too generalized too catch all.
I say announce his violation/violations he's committed or don't announce it at all.
It's unfair to the media, the fans, and above all unfair to Triunfel.Either tell the truth of it or say nothing other than that he's been demoted to rookie league.

Triunfel is from the Dominican Republic, not Venezuela.

I doubt the team would levy such a severe punishment for immigration issues. If memory serves me correctly, Jose Lopez was late to spring training because of immigration issues, but was in no way punished by the organization. I bet this has to do something with illegal drugs (not steroids), alcohol, or prostitution.

rotoworld alluded to insubordination and perhaps it is a maturity issue. Afterall he is just an 18 year old kid. I have one of those and a long time ago I was one of those. Throw in all the press about this kid and he probably has a huge head right now. Sending him down is probably a way of convincing him he isn't above the team.

My guess is drunk and insuboordinate with a big head to match.

Actually this is a good thing. A guy with that much promise needs to check himself. Look at guys who couldn't keep thier attitudes and selfishness in check. Their careers usually don't take off until they learn to control themselves. Think of the career Josh Hamilton would already have if someone would have shown some tough love. Milton Bradley had to really step back and take a look at himself. Elijah Dukes may never recover from his issues.
These players read the headlines and they know they have talent but they need to realize they are still part of a team and they all have a job to do.

18, a glorious time tobe to live to experience things, places and people. I remember, if only I could do it again and again and again and. Yep, a great age.
